If I get a D for one class, do I have a high chance of being rescinded?

Yes, I slacked off in AP bio.
Well it was never my best subject - I struggled, A LOT. It wasn't like I would drop from a A to a C or D or B to D, F. Until now, I had C average, but I might actually get a D for the final year if I don't do well last quarter.

If that's the case, do I have a high chance of being rescinded?
Other classes, I have a B- for one other AP and the rest are all A's. It basically means that I didn't slack off on other classes but for biology, I have a D. Will they ask me and tell me to explain? Or will Rutgers (Engineering, specfically) just rescind my acceptance?

I'm really worried and I'm determined to step it up this last quarter.

I'm a little worried too. Third marking period I didn't do so hot. Might have gotten a few D's in AP classes... I'm really gonna try and pick it up though.

don't worry about it.. not saying that you should just totally not care and slack off, but they won't that easily rescind the offer.

I had the same problem.. I had this schedule problem with my school and they wouldn't let me drop the class although I had a legitimate reason for not being able to attend the class. So right now, I'm getting a 55 for the final grade FOR SURE (since I'm not attending the class AT ALL while the class is still in my schedule) and I was so worried about it. I called Rutgers, and they assured me that it wouldnt be so much problem as long as i attatch a little note explaining why, and i keep my other grades up.

Just to be safe, call them, or attach a little note when you send them your transcript. I think they only see your final overall average anyways.. which means one class shouldnt matter. I hope this makes you feel better.. but still try hard tho .

Let's be frank, a D looks bad and tells the admissions people that you got major senioritis. AP bio can be hard, but not that hard.

If you really care about getting into RU, pick up your grade.

What if I got all A's and one B for the rest? Would they still care a lot about that D? Would they be able to tell I'm struggling considering I only have one horrible grade

They don't freaking care once they admit you. If you fail several classes or get arrested, they will care. Most likely, you will be fine.

Don't they usually just see your final grade? If you final grade's a D, and you got accepted with an A/B transcript, that's not too good. But if it averages out to a C or something, you're fine, don't sweat it!

do they only look at your final overall grade (the average of two semesters) or EVERYTHING on your transcript?

It depends: what exactly is on your high school transcript?

See, at my school, the transcript has a listing of classes that I took under "freshman", "sophomore", "junior" and "senior" years. Next to each class is my OVERALL grade for that year, along with the cumulative GPA. So, if I received a C+, A, A+, and A in math in senior year, Rutgers will NEVER know that I received a C+ in the 1st marking period of the 1st semester. They will only see the average, which is around an A/A-.

I would ask someone in guidance or whoever is in charge with transcripts if the form shows the grade for each semester or overall. My guess is that they only show the average of two semesters because seeing every single grade for each marking period would be a bit too much.

curses, my school shows all of the marking periods. not good.
has anyone actually HEARD of somone who got rescinded?

Oh, I got a email from an admission's officer about this.

Thank you for writing. We review the final grades of all enrolling students to ensure that they've satisfied the conditions of enrollment outlined in their admission packet. Any final senior grades that are not consistent with the record with which a student was admitted may result in a rescission of that student's admission. To answer your second question, if we see a grade below a C on a student’s final transcript, we will consider that grade within the context of the student’s entire senior year academic performance.

Sincerely,
University Undergraduate Admissions

what a threatening letter..
im scared now :(

But I hardly doubt they will ever do that..
just to scare us and make us keep up our grades? idk...

I'm most likely getting a D for the year :(.
I enrolled in School of Engineering.

I won't be failing. Just that 1 D, 1 C for another AP class, 1 B, and 4 A's.

My high school only shows the one grade earned for the year.

Rutgers doesn't need midterms, so I didn't send them out, but they accepted me with my grades from 9th-11th grade.

But according to the Rutgers statement,

I should most likely be fine right? Considering I do have one grade below a C, but since my other grades for senior year means I didn't really slack off (My 4 A's and that B should help a lot), the worst I can get is academic probation, which even that is rare, correct?

Oh by the way, the school I'm in is the School of Engineering

Biology in a way involves Engineering, depending on the major. But by my second year, I want to major in Industrial engineering for sure.

Will getting that D in biology have a significant impact? Or is it just the same, like any other school in Rutgers (Pharm, SAS, etc)

Bump~~~~~~~~``

Since no one has answered :( ...

You stated that Biology has basically been hell this whole year that you were pulling in C's. While the D average might look bad, it probably won't have a significant impact -- considering that you had C's and not grades like A's or B's in Bio. Just dropped from a C average to a D. Not great, but not a huge drop.

I can't confirm whether you can get your acceptance rescinded, but perhaps you should contact the school through the telephone (not email since they will probably give the same response that they gave MedusaFelix).

Have you gone to one of the academic planning days yet ? If not, perhaps you should meet with someone in person and address your issue. Talk to one of the advisers or maybe one of the deans in person.

By the way, is there a reason why your grade dropped??

There isn't really a reason why the grade dropped. It was just too hard for me.
Also there is no APA (academic planning day) as there is no such thing for Engineering students.

For now, my counselor is going to write a letter explaining the situation.

Oh...you're right, I forgot that there isn't an APA for engineering students :o

Well, at least your counselor is writing a letter explaning the situation. In that case, you should be fine :)

haha alright :]

bump.

umm

my counselor wrote the letter but he advised for me to not send it. because it will only attract attention to admissions officers. and that there are also a lot of students so not like they go through my grade like extremely carefully. so he said that its better not to. only send it if i hear back from rutgers...

is he right in your opinion?

should i send it out or no?

He's right. Don't send it.

If Rutgers become concerned about your grade(s), they will contact you. Most of the time schools will send letters giving you a warning before rescinding your acceptance altogether.

If Rutgers didn't contact you with a letter stating that they are "concerned" about your recent drop in grade(s), then you have nothing to worry about. If they do contact you, then send the letter :)
