I know a D will really hurt me if im trying to transfer. But if i do get a D will the school im trying to transfer to not count that credit. Say I have 15 credits this semester and I get a D in a 3 credit class will the school im trying to transfer to only count me as having 12 credits?

Check with the school, because some schools only look at your transcript and take the credits if you get the minimum grade they require. So getting an A won't mean your A will transfer, only your credit does. This is the case with Penn.

But when you apply for admissions and they look at your transcript, they'll definitely consider everything.

Check with the school. However, I've never heard of a school accepting anything less than a "C-" as transfer credit.

Check with the school...even though the grade does not transfer, only the credit, colleges will have a standard for what they will accept. When I worked in transfer admissions for a college, that school only took a "C" or better. Also each class needed to be 3 credit hours or more for transfer.

try taking the class again if possible

But im applying for the fall 2005 semester. If I take the class next semester, spring 2005,the school wont see the new grade will they? They will only see the D when they make their decisions.

That depends if your school with "forgive" the substandard grade, i.e. erasing prior grade.

Where are you trying to go? Getting a D might get you rejected.

Im not looking at any great schools like Harvard or anything. Some of the schools I had in mind were Virginia Tech, University of Miami, UNC-CH, James Madison University, ohio state and Clemson.

anyone have any other advice?

If you took the class again next term and offered an explanation to the college in the section for additional information, that may help. I don't think college's would see your spring term grade. If they don't specifically ask for a mid-term report, I doubt colleges would call up the school of all of their applicants for their current grades. Hope this helps

I havn't heard of a school accepting anything less then an C- unless you are tranfering to CSU. All UC will count the D against you. I worked in admission at city college for a few years, and I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Another thing, I know student who have transfered to CSU with one or two D's but ususally not to UC but then anything is possible. For UC that might make you take the class over.

Hope that helps!
