If I wanted to go to ucla or emory for med school then would unc chapel hill be a good choice for pre med?

Its what you do at UNC that will get you into Emory or UCLA.

I agree with ASMAJ completely. My son and three friends all graduated from UNC last May and are currently finishing their first years at Baylor, Hopkins, Harvard and UT Southwestern Med Schools. This is just from his circle of good friends; he knows of many others who also went on to numerous other Med schools. In every interview he went on he had interviewers comment about someone they knew or had done research with at UNC; it won’t hurt your chances for admission anywhere as long as you do everything you need to do to be a top candidate for admission.

It’s been said many times on other threads but selecting an undergrad school based on its potential impact on med school admissions is not a wise decision. Your med school admission will be based almost entirely on your overall undergrad GPA, science GPA. MCAT score, medicine related ECs and letters of recommendation.

Selecting a school based on fit and where you think you will be happiest and thrive the most is far more important because that will also greatly impact your academic performance.
