what math should i take

what is you major? it kinda depends if you are pre-med an engineer ect...

im undeclared but i wanna go into business or economics later

anyone....i feel hella lost on where to go now

i would take math 1b. My friend was an intended business major and got a 5 on both Calc AB and BC exams. She took math 1b and she got into hass. But you might want to look at the hass requirements because they are quite strict.

If you got a 5, you don't need to take more calculus if you want to major in business.

Im in the same boat, should I skip math completely if I got a 5 on BC (haas intended) or should I go ahead and take a math class anyway (16 series for a gpa pad or 1 series for a more rigorous course load)?

you would be jeopardizing your chances at Haas if you take math 1b.

I also got a 5, and I'm in EECS. Should I take 53 or 54?

Well you can test out of Math 1a and 1b if you get a 5 on the Calculus BC exam. From what I hear Math 1a is pretty easy, Math 1b is a weeder (hard), and math 53 and 54 are harder but since they aren't weeders they're graded slightly easier. I've also heard that it depends on the professors.

To the OP, if you don't know, don't bother with math your first semester. If you're not a math, physics, or engineering major, you will likely not need to worry about taking math courses. You can then decide later if you wish to take some math course. If you have any feeling you may want to do math, physics, or engineering, then Math 53 or 54 would be the place to start for you. I recommend not taking 1B since you've placed out of it (I feel taking things you don't have to is a waste of time).

To stripedsweater, it doesn't matter. If you can, find opinions on which class has the better professor this coming semester and choose based on that. Otherwise, you can choose if you prefer Calculus (53) or Linear Algebra (54). In the end you'll have to take both, anyway, and difficulty-wise they are about the same.

About the GPA-padding comment, I personally don't subscribe to that line of reasoning when choosing classes. It isn't hard to get a good GPA taking legitimate classes.

I never took it, but even from what I hear, this statement is a bit intense, dont' you think unlimitedx? I think the poster's wants and abilities would have a lot to do with the situation, as well as other factors (the prof, for instance). But I think that many people who get 5s on the BC test are ready for 53, although I imagine this would not apply to everyone. I do know someone who got a 5 on the bc and took 1b, and she was bored out of her mind- stopped going to class, i think.

For Haas, don't you have to take stats?
