“but that hardly means you don’t have a worse chance”

Let’s apply some logic here Newest newb: 1) like I said, files aren’t probably read until they are complete i.e. all the school docs and test reports are in. 2) One of the most selective colleges in the world would normally tolerate file readers who impose advantages and penalties to ultra petty scintilla such as the date stamp of a submitted app? You think this is reality for Princeton?

People walk around in college admissions paranoia all the time. This subject needs to be left to die, already

Your so-called “logic” is built upon axioms that are no more than mere guesswork.

“files aren’t probably read…”
Aside from being difficult to understand, this phrase implies that that it is wholly unclear as to whether this is a fact or not, which is exactly my point.

The beauty of logic is that you can draw any conclusion from any arbitrary set of potentially flawed axioms. And that was my point.

From Princeton’s FAQs: When are applications due?

January 1 is our final postmark or electronic submission deadline. We ENCOURAGE applicants to submit THEIR portion of the application by December 15, IF POSSIBLE

Princeton obviously acknowledges that some things are out of applicants’ hands. I’m going to go out on a limb and say I’m 100% sure that it doesn’t matter when the application is submitted, so long as it is submitted by the deadline.

Just to update for next year, D1 is a sophomore at Princeton, D2 submitted ON the January 1st deadline, she will be attending Princeton in the fall. My Daughters are neither legacies(unless siblings count), nor URM’s. When you submit(as long as it is by the deadline) does NOT matter. Princeton liked to have as many as soon as possible to start their review as there was no EA/ED. Next year with EA reinstated, the “early deadline” may not even be specified!

I was an international applicant from India (which generally has a pretty good applicant pool) and submitted an hour before deadline and still got accepted to Princeton. I submitted two hours after the deadline to UPenn and also got in there. So yes, when you submit doesn’t matter all that much as long as you’re not too late. Being prepared early is great, but if you’re late in putting your app together (or writing a brand new essay with two hours to go for the deadline like me;)), then don’t wet your pants.
