Both the Popular Music and Industry (Jazz) programs have invited me to audition live as a vocalist. Does this mean that they've reviewed the strength of my application as well, or is their decision to invite me solely based on my DVD submission?

The music admissions officers may take a look at your basic qualifications for USC to see if you would make the cut, but probably don’t read it in full. Having good qualifications is important for USC. They liked your DVD -that’s good news. Good luck with the live audition. My d is a freshman in popular music-PM me if you have questions.

27dreams, from what we were told, your application goes “back” to admissions after you audition and together the music department and admissions departments work out who is accepted. A very strong audition can make up for lesser stats, but only to a point. They want to feel you can succeed academically at USC. So you can be invited to audition, do well enough to “pass” the audition, but still not get accepted. By the same token, very strong academics will not get you in the music school if your audition isn’t strong enough.

Good luck!
