If i pay cash will i still get grant?

Hey guys I'm in a bit of a mess. I'm a freshman in college going to BMCC. This school has me running around like a chicken with no head. They told us at the last moment about having to give in a verification sheet for my parents tax papers so I'm taking it tomorrow (Monday) and school starts Wednesday. Once i hand that in it takes time to process. The financial aid office at my school said it'd take about a week. So the bill is due on the August 27th which is a day before classes start. I was thinking in case i don't get the money tomorrow or Tuesday from FAFSA or TAP to pay the money because of the verification being processed. So if i pay cash just so they don't get cancelled. Will i still be able to receive my grant while the semester is in session even after paying in cash?

You have to ask the financial aid office. In general, as long as the financial aid awards are pending, your registration of this term should be ok.

Tonight, look up your account at CUNY first to see if there are any anticipated credits on the books for you. It should give you an estimate of your financial aid award.

Once you take everything tomorrow, ask the financial aid office that because you have anticipated credits, will they still allow you to attend class on wednesday and not drop your registration.

Go early, take your phone charger, because from what I have seen, it is really crowded and chaotic, so be prepared to be there for a while. Make sure that you take photo ID or they will not let you through to see anyone.

In my CUNYfirst when i click financial aid it says “Aid year not set up for self-service.” But i did my FAFSA since January and TAP 2 months ago. I’m taking in the verification sheet for financial aid tomorrow to the office along with my dads tax papers since they wanted transcripts but i just made a copy of the official tax papers instead. I hope just because it says “Aid year not set up” means i’m not getting anything. FAFSA sent me the conformation page and everything and i’m taking that as well. What’s your opinion on my situation?

Did you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in your FAFSA? See [IRS Data Retrieval Tool](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/help/irshlp9.htm).

Paying cash should not have any impact on your eligibility for Pell. But check with the school what there policy is for students whose aid is pending. I know at my daughter’s school she did not have to pay if they had it on record her aid was pending (they did this really weird thing where they charged her interest and then backed it out). But check with your school. Their policy is what matters.
