Title says it all, really. I was debating on whether or not to take the Subject Tests in the August or in October, and then take the SAT on the other date between the two. I was wondering if my EA/ED colleges will get my October scores and superscore them if I take the October SAT. Can anyone shed any light on the situation?
You will need to check with each college - the information will either be on their website or will be available via a quick phone call. If the scores are sent directly they are probably ok - but check anyway.
Also, keep in mind that many - if not most - competitive schools are either allowing or directly requesting that you self-report. Assuming your October scores are back before November 1st - a pretty reasonable assumption - this option may work well for you as long as you don’t send your apps. till later in the month.
That’s the answer. There is no blanket statement that covers every college.
@JBStillFlying Why is self-reporting helpful in this case? What’s the difference between self-reporting and whatever alternative exists?
The colleges that allow self-reporting of SAT/ACT in lieu of official score reports at the time of application are doing so because they are cognizant of the expense involved in sending multiple score reports. However, for those colleges, you would need to send an official score report if accepted and you decide to attend. Of course, your official score report needs to match your self reported scores.
Keep in mind that not all colleges have this option. You would need to verify what each college expects with the application in advance. Good luck.
Almost all ED/EA colleges with a November 1 application deadline accept Oct scores and they can arrive after Nov 1, and many of those even accept Nov test scores for EA or ED. There are a small number of colleges (Mich and UIUC are among them) that accept the October scores only if they are actually provided by Nov 1, i.e., all test scores must be in their hands by Nov 1, and those colleges clearly state that as a requirment on their sites. To avoid the issue entirely, you can identifying the colleges to which you are applying EA or ED in your test application file with College Board as ones to automatically receive scores upon release. That results in the fastest form of delivery for official scores (usually sent and delivered to the college a day or two before you even get the scores online).
