Hey,
I'm currently a sophomore, and I was thinking of taking a official SAT at my high school. However, I don't want this SAT score to count, or for any colleges to know about it. So if I take it this year, will anyone know about my scores or anything like that?

No, it won’t count. Go ahead and practice.

Im positive it will count. It will be graded and in the collegeboard’s records but colleges will not know if it unless you choose to send it to a college.

Yes it counts. herozero is right … it will be in your CB record, etc. If your school puts test scores on transcripts, it will also be there. You will have to report it if your college asks for ALL scores to be reported, and it would have the date by it, showing it was from your sophomore year.

Your other option is to take a practice test, timed, etc.

The PSAT does not count as a sophomore … that is practice.

@livelikeali: ALL Scores taken from Freshman year onward will count in college admissions, especially if they ask for ALL scores.

So do you guys think I should take it?

Whoa, I would like to officially withdraw my answer. Listen to herozero and MaterMia :)

livelike - that is really your choice. I know some kids who are done testing before their junior year, scores good enough, they were done. I think you are probably better off taking practice timed tests, studying, etc. Study for AP tests - if you aren’t in ap classes, you can self stuff for them. My S was done before his senior year started. YOu can also study for the ACT. Study for both the ACT and SAT - they are both offered the first two weeks of June when school gets out. Take one of each. Whichever one you like better, or score better on … then study for that one and take again fall of your junior year - and maybe you are done.

Of Course it counts…my friend was a soph last year, took it, got 2400, we were all like ***!!! Good times…

But if I was to apply to an ivy league or even UCF, will it matter much in the applications and in terms of my acceptance in the school?

Why do you want to take it so badly? I’m really curious. Do a practice from BB or get a QAS. It’ll have the same effect if all you want to know is where you are at.

livelike - you might want to research the schools you are interested in - and see what their policies are regarding scores. If they consider ALL scores, and require ALL to be reported, yes it might. If you don’t know what specific schools are you are interested in - the safest bet is to wait. I would talk to your school counselor and your parents before you decide. Anonymous advice on a discussion board - as you have seen - can be right and wrong. So - in the end, these are decisions you have to make with guidance from those around you. Again - I would recommend putting your energy into actually studying for the tests.
