If I took the SAT.....

Do I have to take the ACT with writing? Or can I do the test without it?

depends on the school....
you should probably just be safe and take it with writing.
the essay isn't really that bad. it's a lot easier than the SAT essay.

I concur, some schools require, some don't, unless you're absolutely sure you won't need the writing, it's not too bad. Instead of asking you to respond to a quote or statement like the SAT, the ACT essay asks you to take a side on some debate or issue. Hell, they even recommend for you to not worry about rigid formatting, just write well and it'll work itself out.

There are a lot of LAC's that want to see the ACT WITH writing, so by not doing the essay, you may limit your options. If it doesn't go well, you always have your SAT, or you can re-take the ACT, since more and more colleges are superscoring the ACT nowadays. Go for the essay! What's another 30 minutes, after all. Good luck!

Most schools require the writing for admission. Colgate, however, does not.

ok thanks guys, i was just wondering. i dont know too much about the ACT. thanks for your answers.

ACT has a section on their website where you can put in the college you're wondering about and they will give you info as to whether the essay is required, recommended or not needed... I'd do it for sure, though...
