If I get a summer job, will it effect my financial aid package for this coming fall? Or next year? Because I really do want to get a job and use the money to pay for books and extra money to spend and the likes but don't want my FA package to change. Thanks.

I would guess it will not impact this fall because your FAFSA is already done for 2010-11 by the time you’d work the summer job. As far as it impacting next year, I was told at a general FAFSA presentation last fall that a student can earn up to $3000 per year without it affecting your EFC at all.

It won’t affect the FAFSA you just filed as that was based on 2009 income. The income protection allowance for dependent students is $4500 for the current (10/11) FAFSA. That means the first $4500 you earn will not effect your EFC, so you’re probably not likely to hit that with just a summer job. Above that, 50% of your earnings are added to your EFC. I don’t know if the allowance is going up for the 11/12 FAFSA.
