Should I study chemistry for my undergraduate degree first before transferring to petroleum engineering in graduate school, or should I study petroleum all the ways?
Which path would be better for landing an upper-stream job?

No need to go to grad school to get into upstream oil and gas. An undergrad in petroleum engineering will do the job fine. I would definitely not suggest getting a chemistry major if your really interested in petro eng, you could do chemical engineering and go into upstream o&g but chemistry wont really get you anywhere in the industry. Hope this helps!

Agree with above completely. I would not recommend chemistry at all for what you said. From what I’ve seen, you need a PhD in chemistry and you will be primarily used in a research role for O&G companies.

How come you’re looking for upstream only instead of the entire range? You are limiting your options somewhat, and I would advise to keep all options open or you might skip over a great career opportunity.
