@Tulanefan101 : Thank you so much for citing those examples. Again, this obsession with “obvious” paths among elite students amazes me. One would expect them to be smart enough (or at least adaptable enough) to take risks or be somewhat comfortable with “non-traditional” pathways to success. Often the most successful in that arena are like the people you describe. They didn’t have their whole life and career mapped out by time they arrived to or even graduated from college and most importantly, they kept an open mind/were opportunists, so they made things work for themselves and ultimately landed in “business” (again, vague). Typically they married a field they really enjoyed with the business-world or some business interest.
