If I went to a college for only a semester, do I have to list that when applying to a new school?

So long story short, last year, my freshman year, I went to a local commuter school, got a good gpa, and I decided I wanted to transfer, I applied to two schools and got into both, and I couldn’t make a decision until last min and ended up putting a deposit down on both schools and picked one at the last sec. Anyway, my first month is over at my new school and I realized I made the wrong decision and shoulda went to the other one. I have no motivation here, and I’m just not doing good and I just want to be at the other school. I contacted the school asking how I can attend in the spring, and they said you just need to resubmit your app for the spring. So anyway, if I just resubmit the same exact app as I did before, which obviously doesn’t list the current school I’m attending, and just say I took a semester off, will that be ok? Because honestly, my gpa from this semester at this school is going to be horrible, I might just withdrawal, and obviously I don’t want that on my app because it will severely hurt my chances of getting readmitted. So the question is, if I just use the same app that got me accepted into the school for the fall semester which only has my 1 previous school on it, and use it for this spring, and act like I never went to the school I’m currently in, will it work out? At this current school, I didn’t apply for financial aid, take out loans or any of that, I only got a 5k scholarship, if any of that matters. Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

You need to list every place you have attended. Period. You cannot pretend that you have not attended this place.

If you are miserable, and can withdraw without generating a transcript full of bad grades, that would be your best option. You still will need to submit that transcript full of Ws, but it will be better than submitting a transcript full of Fs.

@happymomof1 That’s what I was thinking, but how would they find out if I didn’t list it, as it’s not suspicious, and being they recieve 30k+ admissions, that they look at each one in detail

The correct response to “No, that’s against the rules” is not “But isn’t there a chance I wouldn’t get caught?” – it is “Okay, then I won’t do that.” Do not lie.

Happymom gave good advice above.

@bodangles what would be the consequence if they somehow find out as I don’t see why it’s that big if a deal but I understand

Still wrong question! But what could happen? You could be expelled. You could be forced to repay any scholarships or grants. Even after graduating your degree could be taken away. Schools can and do check your record through a national data base. Colleges like to support each other.

Echoing what others have said. You must list every school you have attending, including your current school. No exceptions.

Couldn’t I just say I paid the deposit at the school picked my classes, but then never attended?

^^^^^Only if you want to lie and risk expulsion.

And what if you are not content with this third school?

There will be a record of you attending another college. Lying will not get you anyway. Just withdraw and reapply to your choice college. W’s are far better than F’s.

They don’t have to check all the 30k applications. They only need to check admitted students who chose to attend.

@Gumbymom I know but the whole point of me wanting to hide it is the risk of not getting admitted again bc of the the transcript from my current school, I don’t know what I’d have to say to explain why 1. I didn’t attend this school in the first place but put a deposit down, and 2. why I went to a different school only to withdrawal from it the first semester

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Closing thread because it’s going around in circles. The answer has been given. Yes, you do need to list it. The question is not if the college will find out, because they will. It’s just a matter of when.

If it is discovered in your application before decisions are made, you application could be rejected. If it happens before you enroll, your acceptance could be rescinded. If you actually make it to campus, and then the college finds out, you could be asked to leave. And even if they find out years later, your diploma could be revoked. Is that really something you want to risk?
