If I will only take the ACT, should I prepare for the PSAT?

I am a rising junior, and I am preparing this summer for the ACT, which I will take this fall. I am wondering if I should prepare for the PSAT. The only reason why I would do this is to increase my chances of being a National Merit Scholar, but I do not know if this is worth the additional preparation. Is it? I feel like it may be a waste of time since I do not plan on taking the SAT. Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated

If you have time and a practice SAT shows you are within shooting distance of your state NMF cutoff, I would study. You can always sign up for the SAT if your PSAT is good, but you can’t go back and do the PSAT later. And it wouldn’t hurt to do some SAT prep – it can pay off for ACT as well, there is quite a bit of overlap. No reason to decide for certain right now that you won’t take the SAT – if the ACT doesn’t go as well as you hoped, you might want to give it a try anyway.

ok, thank you for the advice. I will take it into consideration
