Basically, I went to a UC. I didn’t enjoy it, I was very homesick, had a lot of anxiety and depression. I visited the mental health and school counselor at my school, and they both told me to withdrawal on the basis of medical reasonings, they also said it wouldn’t hurt my record. I left after winter quarter, I missed the cut off for spring community college classes, and chose to not enroll in summer classes because I wanted to boost my resume by doing internships/volunteer experience. I left with a 3.12 ,and 24 quarter units, I didn’t fail any classes. Another MAIN reason why I left my UC was because I changed my major and they didn’t have my major. I couldn’t find anything I wanted to major in, I decided to leave my UC because I wanted to start my studies in my particular major at a community college where they offered my major. I plan to transfer to a 4 year where I can do this (not a UC.) Will this affect my chances?
Will what affect your chances of admission? That you have a 3.12? That you have 24 QH of credit? Neither of those pose a particular barrier.
Request an official copy of your transcript and see if there is anything on it to indicate why you withdrew.
Leaving a place that doesn’t offer your major, and then applying to places that do, makes good sense.
What do you think I should raise my gpa to to be considered a competitive applicant?
It doesn’t indicate on my transcript that I withdrew, I just checked.
Will they look down on the fact that I left after winter quarter?
No. Your situation is extremely common.
No. You just explain that the school didn’t have your major and wasn’t a fit. The explain why school x (which has your major) is a better fit. That’s it.
will they also notice that I didn’t enroll for summer classes, specifically because I wanted to boost my resume by doing internships? (To see if the major I am choosing to pursue is something i’d be good at, like real world experience. )
