I’ve only seen evidence that colleges don’t want gay students to turn down admissions because the gay students fear they aren’t welcome at the college.

Colleges that have significant LGBT populations aren’t out recruiting more. Colleges that don’t, most likely are perceived as not-as-tolerant (think Liberty). At these colleges, that reputation is most likely reinforced subtly or overtly by their admissions anyways (i.e. anti-gay bias). So if you try to pull your “gay” act at those schools, you’re sunk.
