I have two kids currently at Truman State. I noticed in the newsletter that they added an updated virtual tour. It has very nice narratives with it. If you have checked out an older virtual tour, this one is a lot better.

Thanks we are visiting this summer. Are your kids instate or OOS? I know its in a small town are there activities during the weekend or do most kids go home? Thanks

My kids are OOS. Even so, the price ended up being reasonable once merit scholarships were applied. They like it there because they didn’t want a real big student body. The size seems just right to them. It sounds like quite a few kids stick around during the weekends, but also that students need to take the initiative and find out what is going on and not be afraid to join in. They seem to do a lot in groups. There is a state park a few miles out of town where they can swim, hike, fish, etc. They also venture to bigger cities some weekends like Columbia, St. Louis, or Kansas City. I think there are enough people with cars that even those without a car aren’t left stranded too often.

Former TSU student here (only for one semester)
campus is pretty nice and compact (except for barnett hall)
Most people stay over the weekend.
My only gripe was the huge amount of stl and kc kids.
seems like 90% of the school was from one of those cities.
Unfortunately, Kirksville is not a very nice town at all, and there are no big cities within an hr or so of the town (columbia being closest)

Thanks for the info. I like the sounds of this school and think my daughter would do good. She comes from a very small high school (around 55 hs students 9-12) and I don’t want her at a huge campus. Looking forward to visiting this summer. Any other midwest schools we should look at while on our trip from MN?

On your trip down to Truman, look at Central College in Pella, IA. You might also include Luther and Coe in Iowa. Augustana in the Quad Cities is also worth a look.

You mentioned a stop at Iowa State in another post? That is a big, big school.

Newfaith, besides Luther and Coe as mentioned, a small one to check out would be Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. The campus was very nice. It’s very small but has nice facilities. They even have skywalks between a lot of the buildings so you don’t have to get as cold in the winter when changing buildings. Others in Iowa to ponder are Grinnell College (very expensive) and also Cornell College, which is on a block plan where they take just one class at a time. That sounded interesting and is supposed to be a beautiful campus.

If you have any more questions regarding TSU feel free to shoot me a PM.
