If not eligible for aid, but apply, does that limit scholarships?

Hello, newby here with a Sr and a Jr in HS.

If, according to the Net Price Calculators on various college websites, we would not qualify for any aid, but we apply anyway just in case, does that affect any scholarship we might qualify for? In other words, will they see we don't need the assistance and not consider us for a scholarship?

While some scholarships do have a need component, there are others based on merit only (and no, not everyone agrees with me on this). In particular, scholarships that are guaranteed based on stats do not consider need.

Wonderful - that is what I was thinking, but getting nervous and wanted to check. Thank you!

other words, will they see we don’t need the assistance and not consider us for a scholarship?

At many schools, “need” is not considered at all. Scholarships are awarded based on stats alone. And at many schools, the Scholarship office is not the FA office.

If you want merit for you kids, then apply to schools that will give merit based on stats alone. Some schools have ASSURED merit for certain stats.
