if Socrates woke up from the dead today, what would horrify him the most?

and was wandering around modern Athens.. (note: lots of tourists)

I have:
women speaking before spoken to.. cars ("roaring chariots")..high heels?...too much makeup on women? (remember: he's around tourists).. flash cameras...tight clothing (remember: they wore togas)..people form races other than white Greek?

what on TV would horrify him most?
the Iraq war/a report on terrorism
processed food commercials (eg, fruit roll ups)
BET... MTV.. bumping and grinding..rap music

i need help w/ this... i'm writing something and i want to portray Socrates as completely horrified and overwhelmed by modern culture while exposing and giving light to our culture.

c'mon! imagine being thrown into our modern world... what do you see? what would give you a heart attack?

The internet would freak him out, I reckon. As would television and George Bush.

What I think would really freak out Socrates the most would be his Wiki entry. Well, that and, the War.

Would Socrates really freak out? Does he not have one of the most sound mind's of all of humankind ever to walk the Earth? Could he possibly be frighted by the severe language barriet? Where is Socrates buried? Wouldn't local greeks try to kill the zombie that is Socrates?

he wanders into a bar.. orders wine... looks up to find a TV.. starts watching it.. what is on? a report on the Iraq war? how would this horrify him exactly?

What would horrify him the most?

My 1337 PwNaG3 skillz are so awesome, it's scary. :)

The fact that he had somehow found himself in the twenty-first century. ;)

The fact that he has somehow found himself in the 21st century would freak him out the most.

while wandering through modern tourists..what would freak him out the most? remember: socrates was very fond of morality and conservatism, etc..

Perhaps the lack of communication? How everyone seems to go about on their own business, unconcerned about the welfare of their fellow human beings? :)

he's only wandering through the crowds.. this is is exposure to modern culture. not the newspaper or a tour guide or a book on the effects of modern culture. only what he sees from tourists. remember what you see when ina crowd of tourists.. fanny packs.. flash cameras.. loud children.. different cultures...compare this with ancient Athens...how does this appear to someone from 400 BC?

Manners? :D I would think that modern society has vastly different values than those of ancient Greece.

ahh yes. civillized behavior. i will be using the word "barbarians" a lot. ..i mentioned rowdy college students in a bar..

what would he do? i'm writing that he goes into a bar for some wine (the time-honored Athenian panacea) and then looks up to find a TV..

Although it is good to choose a few specialized examples, like "rowdy college students", you may want to focus on society in general.

wel yeah, i'm trying to introduce the reader to modern society. by doing so, i'm exposing the very flaws that it focuses on... showing, not telling.

Ah, I see. That's good, then.

What exactly are you writing for? Is this an essay?

yeah.. in response to "how would your favorite historical figure respond to the world today"

bump

cmon?

AIRPLANES! Damn those things would freak me out. Um, I would say passing by a TV and seeing Bush eff up a speech, but I don't know how well that would go over in an essay.

I think if he was watching TV, he would be shocked by the lack of values in TV shows.
