If somehow an application is incomplete, what does the Adcom do?

Do they...

1) Throw it into the rejection pile

or...

2) Call the applicant/applicant's school to request the missing information?

Most (If not all) schools will notify the applicant if something is missing, and give you time to get it in. If it doesn’t get in, I think they just mark your application incomplete and don’t review it.

I think there’s a distinction between having YOUR part of the application in vs having others’ parts in (letters of recommendation, transcript).

If your part is not in, I think there’s a higher chance that it’ll be flat out rejected.

If it’s the other parts, more chance that they’ll realize that it could be because of things out of your control (eg, poor or disorganized guidance counselor). You’ll likely have some time to remedy that, though not forever.

Either way, it still looks bad on your part.

Nice schools notify you and ask about the missing pieces.

Not so nice, or overly busy schools don’t.

If some parts of your application are arriving separately, take a couple of minutes to email the admissions offices and verify that your file is complete.

Good luck!

Most schools notify you. I know because my older sister applied to college last year and mad things out of her control missing from several schools. All of those schools notified her and gave her time.

Weird question, but I am applying to mostly schools in the UK, for which I only need to send in my predicted grades, my counselor told me he will do the same for my US colleges (I am an international btw, at a school with an inexperienced counselor!), because its hard for them to compile a complete transcript blah blah, and I don’t want to bother my school too much… Do you guys think this is okay? I will send in a regular mid-year report? Or do they regard it as ‘something missing’ and reject me immediately?
