Ok, this is inspired by the thread where people are saying what 2 schools that aren't ivy's should ivys. So... If there was going to be a new 'Ivy League' just for the Western states, what 8 schools would you pick and why?

My 8 (a couple are publics but who cares)
1. Stanford
2. Cal
3. UCLA
4. USC
5. Caltech
6. Rice

The next two i dont know.... I just was having trouble thinking of other stuff
7.Pomona
8. Whitman

Anyone else? I know I'm leaving out some good Western schools...

yeah, i know rice isn't on the west coast... I started with just west coast but the started putting just schools in the western states. And the list doesnt have to include athletics or whatever, just academically, what 8 west coast schools could form their own 'ivy league' (not that they would, of course)

The Ivy League is an athletic conference and not an academic conference. I don't think any of those schools have athletic programs similar to the Ivies'.

the schools dont have to be exaclty like the ivy league just 8 top western schools that could be their own 'ivy league' if there was such a thing. (ignore athletics for a second... just academically and prestige wise which ones could form a west coast ivy league type thing)

There aren't enough good universities in the west coast to form an Ivy League! LOL Well, you have Stanford, Cal, UCLA and USC. Caltech doesn't fit the profile of an Ivy League.

Those are the only schools in california that would fit the desription.
Its interesting how many of the top schools on the west coast are public, yet top schools on the east coast including ivy's are mostly private.

It has also concluded that there would be many memorable football games and other competitions in this new Palm League. The score of the highly anticipated football game between Stanford and Caltech would be 999 to 0 before the end of the first quarter. I am looking forward to see the football game between USC and Harvey Mudd College.

haha, someone said that ucla, usc, and stanford are the only schools that have the athletic program required to be an ivy league school. correct me if i am wrong, but i do believe that cal is in the same athletic program as all three of those universities, the pac 10 conference. and we happen to have pretty good sports teams, one of which continously beats stanford. our football team is preranked # 7 or 8 for next season. booya.

and yeah, already done - palm league with stanford leading the clan. whatever, kthanx.
