I'm kind of wondering after looking at the course times on why there is not enough room in the writing classes compared to the lecture Cat VI classes. For example, let's say 100 people take a lecture in "Diversity and Racial Conflict", but then theres only 80 spots in the writing class below it?

Is USC purposefully closing off these classes or can I sign up for different writing 140 classes? I'm guessing that you have to sign up in the writing class right below the GE class. Can someone please explain?

It's probably a glitch in the system. Last time I checked the WRIT 140 labs all had 2000 spots. You must be thinking of a lecture, in which case there should be multiple ones available. If not, check back at webreg at 9 am the 2nd day of the next orientation.

I'm guessing some people already fulfilled the writing requirement and are taking it for pleasure or taking it to satisfy the diversity requirement. And I believe they open up spots during each orientation session so you might want to log on and try adding a class at 1 PM PST during the second day of orientation...go to the orientation website and look up the dates. Everyone registering will be still looking at classes and trying to figure it out while if you already know can just add it.

Thanks for the info, but it still didn't clear up everything in my mind. twinkie you're right in saying the labs aren't full, but I'm talking about the writing lectures that are only like 15 people max. I don't understand how a Cat VI/Diversity class has 40 people, but the writing class right under it has less than 40 (ex. 30 max).

Do I register for the writing classes found right under the Cat vi/Diversity class or can I just register for any other writing 140 class that are right under the other Cat VI classes.

IF all fails I can just show up to the writing class on class day and try to get added right?

My guess is that they leave a couple extra spots in the cat-6 class for people who have already taken writ-140, but still want to take the class. Given that there's 30 writ-140 registered and 39 people in the cat-6 class, 9 people have done this.

No dice on registering for a different class's writ-140 sections. It has to be the same, university rules.

No clue on whether you can show up unregistered (there might be some policy against it for writ-140 classes, I don't remember) so if you show up you might get sneered at and shooed away/kicked out :) But on the other hand, if you add the class later and didn't show up for the 1st day, it probably counts as an absence.
