If there's one thing I regret...

I am Middle Eastern, but I did not include my ethnicity in my application. I realize now that it could have only been beneficial. I got rejected from my ED and deferred from my EA. The reason I didn't include my ethnicity is because I am against it and I don't believe a deciding vote should come to a student's ethnicity. Unfortunately, colleges love diversity and it's too late for me now.

I think it's actually a good thing you didn't mention it. Middle Easterns count as Asians, I have heard, and Asians are overrepresented at top schools, so it would actually hurt you.

Your ethnicity isn't what kept you from acceptance, man... It was most likely your SATs or GPA...

skp:
actually Middle Eastern people are considered Caucasian.

To OP:
regardless of what some people say on CC, your ethnicity wouldn't have helped you that much. you probably got deferred for other reasons...

Newjack please stop spreading false informaton. you have no idea what youre talking about

Exactly. You got chanced before we knew your ethnicity and you weren't getting in.

Why the hostility? I agree with Newjack, being Middle Eastern or not isn't going to make the deciding factor.

For some colleges, it is the deciding factor whether they like to admit it or not.

Actually they look at the whole package, and if they ask ethnicity, there must be a factor as well. sorry you didn't, I still think you'll get in, just a gutfeeling

at top colleges, URMs are Native American, Black, and Hispanic(in that order)...being Indian, Asian, or Middle Eastern does not help, people from those cultures are very smart and very educated

What the $#@! difference does it make if someone's Middle Eastern or not.

There are a lot less Armenians than African-Americans. You don't see affirmative action helping Armenians.

you've misinterpreted or have missed the point of affirmative action.terribly.

sorry i just dont feel like starting another affirmative action debate.search button ftw. =)

If you don't feel like starting a debate, why do you say "you've misinterpreted or have missed the point of affirmative action.terribly."

Does it make you happy to act like you've got a pair?

You remind me of those wanksters at school who are as smart as a rock and talk like they're so tough. If you don't want to start a debate, don't say blatantly ignorant remarks kid.

Flippy, don't post if you have nothing but garbage to say. There is no need for hostility.

You really are misinterpreting affirmative action.
