The Westinghouse Competition doesn’t exist anymore. You either mean the Siemens Competition or the Intel STS. If you place in the Intel STS or if you compete on the US team for Math Olympiad, you can pretty much go to any college you want.

Maybe I’m wrong, but Seimen’s Westinghouse competition is is one contest, it used to be separate, but then they merged, and haha, competing on the team means being the top 12 out of 500 USAMO test takers, I agree, but I highly doubt I’d make it there, who knows,

Sorry guys!!! About 7 separate ‘■■■■■’ forums got consolidated into one, i wasn’t aware that it was an actual rule, but anyways, everyone thank you for wonderful and selfless input, I obviously recognize that some posts seem awkward and it will take a while to figure out,

man… lol god… took me long enough to get. Mr. google to find out this “integration”.

Yeah,… shushugah, take our words. Calm down lol
You have too much in passion. I do too. But I always get face palm when there is just not enough time…

I actually use prayers in my school (and with my ipod touch that secretly connect to hearing aid) as a time for meditation, I have peruvian music, and it makes me thing and reflect on who and what I want to be. it helps me release m energy, and make me realize, that even though my environment is lacking, I set my own standards and do no compare to others for means of success, rather I can reflect on others for inspiration but nothing more.

shushugah,
I know you are very committed to your political ECs.
However, it might translate to the admissions committee that you do not have adequate time to commit to each of these activities.

That is what I meant.

I do not really care if you are a ■■■■■ or not, I just hope you find your time to do the aforementioned activities and succeed.

i think you shouldn’t keep this eclectic array of course/activities and what not. You will drive yourself nuts and for what? to get into a good college? If you excel in a quarter of these you’ll be much better off and you’ll be showing to colleges your interests and levels of commitment. They hate seeing kids who do everything because they feel that shows a lack of commitment or that you’re just doing it to please the colleges. instead focus on three extra cirriculars in school, 3 aps to self study and like 2-3 of the other things you mentioned. good luck!

BTW where is brown on your list? lol

lol jaxter
Face Palm
Emma Waston!

lol

and @ shushugah
What do you want to be?

Hey, the road ahead of you looks tough. Keep it up though, you’ll get somewhere.

My question for you is, you have those math competitions, how are you doing on those tests now? If you want colleges to notice these, you really should get in 90% percentile for both these.

Also, on the matter of USAMTS, this competition is a fairly… not well known competition. While it is a really tough competition, comparable to USAMO, not many colleges know about it, so I would caution you from banking on some silver medal from USAMTS one year to give much of anything.

However, even making the USAMO is a pretty big thing, and colleges WILL notice that.

Just saying.

@Ninetendo 360: yeah only 500 out of 400,000 test takers remain standing, that’s a 0.125% rating!!!

and USAMT is 110% worth it for my own reasons,

A. i get free $700 Mathemetica Software from Wolfram if I do well,
B. If I get 68 points out of 75 in (68/75th= 90%) I will move on to the AIME with an AMC 10 equivalent score of 90 (meanign I’d need 11 on AIME to take USAJMO) so totally worth it, and MIT knows about USAMT, it’s a freaking math school!!!

@jaxter2121: I am not docking out any college, e.g. while i don’t care so much for say Cornell or some other random but decent college (except not my type or fit), but I won’t actually dock out any options until senior year when i actually have to apply, and I’ll apply to about 10 colleges (including Brown)

@jwxie: I don’t know who i want to be, I have many ideas, but I don’t know which ones, I have romantic dreams of bettering the world, becoming a US CongressMan and working on the issues, I have a political blog to my opinions on various issues, most passionate about social services, technology and anti competitive/copyright laws,

but do i want to be a Math professor or campaigner for Democratic Senatorial Campaign? I have many ideas, but I am limited by time, and so I’ll just keep my options open, (I believe in choice, whether health care plans, abortion pro-choice (not that applicable as a male but you get the idea) or consumer options in a competitive market, {including colleges and the students they choose}

and how do i quote into neat khaki boxes what people say? lol,

Okay, so I don’t want to sound all negative and pessimistic.

Honestly, it’s really hard. Even the IMO Gold Medalist, Xioayu He, only got a 87/100.

Getting 68 points, even if you do all 4 sets, is pretty darn hard. The AMC 10 equivalent of a 68/75 is definitely not 90, more like 140+. There’s a reason you get a month to solve 5 problems.

If you’re aiming for the AIME, definitely don’t depend on the USAMTS. The USAMTS is more of a more-practice-with-really-hard-proof-problems-for-fun. Just keep working on AMC, is my best advice.

However, if you really can get a 68/75 by the first three sets, then you should be aiming for USAMO and potentially MOP.

Also, on the Mathematica thing, a lot of competitions give away free licenses.

And MIT isn’t the only school you’re applying to either. Would schools like Cornell know about it? Maybe. Would they consider it much? Perhaps.

Keep working on other stuff too. Pretty soon, you’ll want to start developing an area that’s of incredible interest to you (if you haven’t already), and you should pursue that. Colleges like to see passion.

well accepted point, I will give it my best shot, and try for up to three stages but the numbers are staggering and I am no Xioayu He, and MAA officially rates your score as 100*N(grade)/75 and 90% is minimum cut off, you’re asbolutely right in no way does it reflect the true difficulty of it compared to AMC 10/12

and I think if I work hard enough I will take the USAMO, but realistically won’t get anywhere near MOP though that’s my next aspiration for next year!! :DD

I’m guessing nintendo is a passion of yours? ;)

I have finished my new updated plan, and want your opinions on this!!! I will be closing this forum soon, so please transfer your attention to the new one, with link attached under

Hello fellow CCer’s, just an update on how plans have changed for the better and worse,

AP’s: Dropping Psychology, Art History and CS (I prefer C programming, so maybe next year) as i see that this is simply resume padding and unnecessary,

School wouldn’t register for any of these contests, Physic QuizBowl
F=ma exam
WestingHouse Competition

and I personally dropped USAMTS, i admit it was too ambitious for me,

I am not in Model UN, College Bowl, or MSG Varsity,
Forget about MySQL and C++ as well,

and SAT 2’s and Regents aren’t that important, will take whatever I feel proficient in, but it’s not a big priority, mainly I wish to take 2-3 SAT’s by the time I graduate, hence I have plenty of time to split it up,

On the positive side, I just registered for Olympiad Geometry in addition to WOOT (World Online Olympiad Training), since W.O.O.T. has very little Geometry, hence I took care of that,

Signed up for NYU Math Circle Course and Pushkin Academy (both are olympiad centered math)

I am also going to be home schooled this semester, so am considering taking some courses on CTY some other online courses
and tutoring from Physics Professors I know. Any questions or “See I knew it!!” comments are all welcome, Thank you guys for giving me hope and support, your comments really had deep impact both consciously and subconsciously. Thank you, :)
