If we did not get a institutional scholarship (merit or any other kind) from school freshman year are we out of luck in ever getting one from the school? I looked everywhere on my school's website but it doesn't say anything about awarding scholarships to returning undergrads, only to freshmen. What is your experinece on this matter if any? Thanks.

My understanding that freshman year award is your best one, after that it could only go lower or toward more loans. I have no prior knowledge though

It would be very unusual to improve the package for the next year without a negative change in your finances.

It depends upon the college. I know Indiana U, where my son goes, has several scholarships that returning students can apply for. My son plans to do so. You might call up the financial aid department and ask.

I'm actually talking about merit scholarships, not the financial package as a whole (although the fin aid would be affected).
