If humans didn't have souls, then we wouldn't have any thoughts about losing our social lives now, wouldn't be afraid to cram a few extra points for our GPA or SAT, and would only think of success instead of pleasure.

Imagine how that would affect our lives. We would not be affected by our latent guilt because we didn't cherish our childhoods or be having this lovely conversation since we would ask "how would this contribute to our success since it's just a discussion?".

How would this kind of human race fare in college admissions and in general life?

^You ask the weirdest questions kid :)
Well if someone doesn't hv a soul, he wouldn't have compunction/ethics/moral code. And tht person will not be a "moron" like us who want to succeed through the right way despite the hard work i.g. studying long hours. Instead the souless person will cheat in their tests, taking the wrong shortcuts to get into college. And they will never feel guilty. The kid with a soul will not sacrifice his ethics for a grade. He will work hard and do it the right way.

^ Well, in that case, if everyone was "soulless", our tomorrow wouldn't be quite so bright. Technological and scientific advancement would come to a halt because people would have cheated their way to the top and wouldn't actually bear the necessary skills to improve. Not sure how this might tie in with natural selection :/

i would say conscience instead of soul. since a soul is just made up by religion

Hope - the essence of the human soul - is the reason we're here today as a civilization. Animals don't have souls. Look at how they've been doing so far. Even with all our natural intelligence as a higher species, where's the drive to use it to create wonders, if we don't have a soul? :D

"we wouldn't have any thoughts about losing our social lives now, wouldn't be afraid to cram a few extra points for our GPA or SAT, and would only think of success instead of pleasure."

isn't that what the whole college admission is slowly becoming? teenagers hardly have anytime to be teens with school, studying for the SAT and EC's

that's their (and often their parents') own fault...

More like it's our cultures fault. Some blame is to the students and parents, but a lot of it is to the schools and just society in general.

This reminds me of the Alfie Kohn thread.

If no one had a soul, nobody would bother to be successful. They would just cheat or rob their way to the top and their would be no incentive to contribute to society.

Or everyone would just become lawyers...
