I am currently a freshman at UVM and I want to transfer schools, I think. I’m from MA and wanted a completely different experience than New England which is why I applied to schools in Canada. However, I ultimately decided to go to UVM because they had the type of dance that I wanted to do (as a club). So not really a strong point to base my whole college decision on, but oh well. So I have joined two clubs here and have met many great people, but I am not thrilled with the classes here and I still want to go to Canada. The problem is I don’t want to have to meet all new people again and have to get used to a new campus. I was thinking of staying at UVM for next year as well (so that I could stay with friends and the clubs for an extra year) and then transfer to a Canadian school in the beginning of my Junior year. Anyone have any advice? Should I transfer earlier and leave all my friends behind or stay for more time and then go to Canada and take better classes?
I would advise you to stay at your current school for another year just to see how you really feel about it. From your post, it seems like you’re not 100% sure on your feelings on transferring. Transferring is a major decision and should not be taken lightly unless you’re absolutely certain that it’s the best option for you. You’ve only been in college for less than a year and tbh it sounds like you’re doing just fine. Maybe take an extra year to explore more and if you still think the school is not for you, then you can transfer.
