If you are a deferred applicant but your GPA and test scores are on the very low end of the spectrum, do chances look better for you? I noticed that Harvard takes chances on some students, but if your GPA and test scores are low enough to have your application automatically tossed away, does it mean that the admissions committee took a real interest in you in order for them to defer you?
I wouldn’t say they look better you still weren’t accepted you were deferred. I wouldn’t say they took a real interest in you I say they thought you were an okay candidate but had many other better more advance candidates.
Apparently 4,673 students were deferred while only 464 were denied. Approximately 1660 enroll. so, they will be selecting about 900ish students for regular admissions out of a huge pool. Harvard seems to be one of the schools that defers most students (10 times more than they reject) rather than rejecting most and simply putting a few in the deferred category because they are strong enough to take a second look at. So your odds are not very high. Better than being flat out rejected but not very high. If you have anything new to boast about I’d send it now but I would not hold my breath. Hopefully you have a ton of other applications out.
They had a chance to accept you in the early round and they didn’t. Unless you have something really significant yo add to your application your chances of bring accepted go down not up in the RD round. You’re now being considered in a pool of 35,000 applicants instead of 6,000 and they already passed on you once making it easier to say no the second time. Sorry for being so blunt but I think you should be hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. Naturally, I hope you prove me wrong. Good luck!
