If you are a fan of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

@Nrdsb4 and @OHMomof2, Diana posted part 2 of the photo recaps today. I love the memes of Frank and Claire running to the stones!
<a href=“killing time | Outlander S1E08 Photo Recap, "Both Sides Now,"...”>http://atom1cflea.■■■■■■■■■■/post/99548532351/outlander-s1e08-photo-recap-both-sides-now-part-2</a></p>

I read that this morning, also. It was hilarious!

Oh caraid, thank you!! I’m in a lull again, just finished Voyager and will wait a bit for the next. I actually have a large-ish work project to do so it’s just as well. But I definitely have time to read a recap :D

Nrds - thanks also for the Facebook heads-up, very interesting.

@OHMomof2…OK, I’m getting everyone mixed up. Are you the lady that just found the books as was worried about what was in DIA? And we told you all would be well and you would be glad you have Voyager to read next (waiting from the library). Anyway, I had to take a break from the books in the beginning, too. You really invest alot emotionally in them, and I needed to take a breather between Voyager and DOA. I read The Bronze Horseman and loveed it.

Yep that’s me. Started Outlander the night after I watched the 8th TV episode. Ordered DiA (only one I own at present), read it, had Voyager waiting for me from the library so went right into that. I am now waiting on the next two - the short story and then DoA.

And yes, of course, all was well :)

Way to go, @OHMomof2!!

Wow…I think you even read them faster than me. It took me about 10 days each with DIA and voyager. Don’t want to give away spoilers, but wasn’t Voyager wonderful…at least the first half? 2nd half just ok for me…except LJG…I really like him.

Well I’ll do spoilers, with warning for anyone who hasn’t read that far.

SPOILERS for 3rd book***

I’m a huge fan of Jamaica, I travel there for work or play fairly regularly and also blog on that subject for fun (and a little extra $), have an entire wall of J’can literature and books set there, so that part was personally appealing. If you know JA at all you’ll know the legend of the White Witch of Rose Hall. Rose Hall is not located in the same part of JA in the book but clearly DG was aware of that legend because her white witch has a lot of similarities. As soon as I heard the white witch and jewels bit in Scotland, I thought of that.

First half of Voyager…well of course I was dying for her to get back already. Honestly found the print shop reunion a bit light…had pictured her making some kind of long journey after the stones resulting in a magical appearance over the hill at Lollybroch, hair blowing, incredulity on his face…you know. But DG wanted to keep it real, as usual, and made up for it as they went along I felt.

The gradual catching up on what had happened between them was satisfying…and I admit I didn’t see the Laughaire stuff coming AT ALL (and Lord, the way she found out…). I felt like this recap snippet from the first book/season: <a href=“killing time | My favorite scene, Outlander S1E3 "The Way Out"”>http://atom1cflea.■■■■■■■■■■/post/96118224366/my-favorite-scene-outlander-s1e3-the-way-out</a> – “…later on in the episode I wanted to smack Jamie in his stupid face.** L’EER FREE ZONE, y’all.**”

SPOILERS-Voyager

Didn’t you find it odd that after Jamie rescued Claire from the witch trial that IT NEVER OCCURRED TO HER to tell him that Laughaire was responsible for nearly getting her killed (since she purposely lured her over to GD’s house on a false pretense)?! And in Voyager he says he never would have had anything to do with her had he known?

I LOVED the build up to their reunion, as well as the scene when they finally actually meet, how he thinks he’s seeing a vision at first, then faints when he realizes she’s actually returned. It was quite satisfying when he wakes up with his head in her lap and she says the same thing to him that he’d said to her when she fainted at their wedding (“that bad, is it?”).

The part when Claire shows him photos of Bree and his hands are shaking while sorting through them was a beautiful scene.

Voyager spoilers…

And when he was looking at the pictures he fell in her arms slowly and wept. I think I need a reread. The thing is I haven’t read them in awhile and don’t want to nitpick the shows like I did with Season 1.

**STILL VOYAGER SPOILERS

@Nrdsb4‌
OMG I can’t believe Claire didn’t tell him STILL about She-who-can-not-be-Pronounced (I just made that up, can’t believe one of these recap-folks hasn’t jumped on the HP reference even when one took me there with not being able to spell/say her name). Right when Claire found out he’d married her would have been a good time, before he got to explain why he did it. But, you also have to feel a teensy tiny bit sorry for L’eer because she had Jamie for years and couldn’t even enjoy him. Your loss, sister.

I agree the faint/wakeup was pretty sweet.

@conmama
The photos…I agree. Since we found out she and Rog can go through, I thought they might in this book but I imagine they will at some point. Once again, my library has the later books in for me but not the next two. So I’ll wait. Or, just buy them all, despite my “bag a day” style vow not to accumulate.

I’ve rewatched some of the episodes and I must say I am fine with the differences. There are even some things I might enjoy more about the show, gasp, even having now read.

@Nrdsb4‌
OK, edited to add…she DID tell him? When? I missed it? I was maybe in hour 5 of a reading marathon and sleepy?

^^^^In Voyager, when she is so upset at Jamie, she talks about it and he is incredulous, saying basically, “WHAT?! I never knew that, do you think I would have married her if I did?”

^^^Maybe that conversation occurred in DIA. I don’t remember.

Okay, I just googled around, and found that the conversation occurs in one of the later books. You didn’t sleep through that scene. :D

“Larry” is how they say it on the show or at least that’s what I’m hearing :)

Laoghaire as written by DG is supposed to be incredibly lovely so that goes a long way. I think they should have cast her a little younger in the show; in Outlander as I recall she is about 15.

Maybe they cast her looking a little older (though I’m not sure she does), since Sam H is actually 34 and her looking 15 would be too creepy when they have to kiss.

Speaking of SH, he and CB are a People couple of the year or some such and just did a really cute interview in which they admit they watched the Wedding episode, as edited and broadcast, together, drunk :D

Sam Hueghan is gay isn’t he? I find this interesting in light of his role, and it is refreshing how times have changed so that he and Starz don’t think that needs to be covered up somehow.

I have no investment in his relationship with his costar but not into hearing the details of any romance he may have with anyone…it disturbs me a little that many in fan-world do seem to care if he is gay or straight or seeing Caitriona or not.

Just checking in here to see if there’s any news about alternate ways to watch this (no cable). Thus I haven’t seen the shows and maybe I am missing something, but why would it disturb you for fans to be interested in the actors private lives? It seems like typical curiosity to me. I understand the not caring part, just not the disturbed part . . .

I suppose because I’ve seen it (“it” being the question of him being gay or not - I haven’t seen anyone wonder if she is) make online fans get very upset and argue as heatedly as CC people can about affirmative action or politics here, with the same thread shut-downs and anger at each other that results.

Of course people wonder if these two are dating, it’s certainly crossed my mind. The idea that they might, as the song says, “never-ever-ever”, is a bit off-putting.

I feel a bit bad for them, too…there must be a thousand paparazzi out there trying to answer that very private question. Heaven help them if they ever do date, look at the Twilight stars…

I didn’t think it was a question or a private issue per se, as I had read that SH is out and open about it. It is odd how some people very much want costars to be involved off screen, that hasn’t changed since Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton - although let’s be real, these two are in a tv show - I guess it adds a frisson of authenticity to the acting.
