If you are a fan of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

Oh gosh, don’t mention Gabaldon and fan fiction in the same sentence-- she’ll have an apoplectic fit! She’s notorious for going after fan fiction writers who dare play in her universe.

Yes, I know she hates that…but the storyline at the end of Echo read like Fan Fiction to me. I remember thinkingn “oh, come on, is that the best you can do, it’s totally unbelievable?” I also think she might have started the book as practice, but somewhere along the line knew she was hoping it would be a published novel…who wouldn’t?

I also agree that Scotland is more intriguing than the American Revolution to me.

OK guys…I’m near the end of MOBY and there is a minor character - like a cooper or something - named Heughan, and in someone’s list of middle names is Caitriona. Coincidence?

POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR MOBY AND ECHO*********

I’m not sure which storyline you mean exactly at the end of Echo as they are blending together a bit, but do you mean the latest time travel/gold intrigue with the modern Scots?

Or the Willie kept his rosary stuff?

Or the Fergus might be an aristocrat stuff?

Stated in simplest form, an argument could be made for each of those plot points. The one with Fergus seemed kind of…well, to say something is farfetched in a story about time travel is kind of sketchy, but…yeah. It had a whiff of fanfic to it, didn’t it?

OHmom…the storyline was at the end of Echo between Claire and Lord John. I thought it was so farfetched, it sort of took the “oomph” out of the whole series for me for awhile. I’ve read all her explanations defending it…but I think she wrote it to shock her readers. Well, mission accomplished and it also made many of us disgusted.

ECHO MOBY SPOILERS MAYBE, ETC*******************************

Ah yes, the Enterpe sinking. That was some BS. Also, kind of dumb because we knew he wasn’t on it. And he’d already offered to marry Bree so why not Claire, I guess.

I have enjoyed MOBY a lot more than I enjoyed Echo. I find myself very interested in Rob Cameron et al., and the moving around in time, Roger and Buck and all that.

I also feel the intimate scenes with Ian and Rachel are remarkably similar to the early Jamie-Claire ones.

I am still feeling like I am missing a lot because I haven’t read the Grey novels.

@OHMomof2, Diana added Heughan and Caitriona as a shout out to Sam and Cait. I guess she often uses names of friends for side characters.

When I first read Echo I was disappointed. The book felt rushed to me and I wasn’t happy that I had to wait a long time to find out what happened. I reread Echo before I read MOBY. I liked it much more the second time. Finishing Echo and starting MOBY right after made it feel like one huge book.

I thought she did, and I liked it :)

I agree that Echo and MOBY feel like one book. Tomorrow I’ll tell you how I feel about the ending of MOBY…just 200 or so pages away now.

Why are people using MOBY as an acronym for–presumably–Written in My Own Heart’s Blood?

Because DG does, I guess. MOHB. Which I finished earlier. Good ending, not a cliffhanger but a lot of threads still out there.

@OHMom…BIG SPOILER for ECHO!!!

The part I didn’t like was Clair and LJG hooking up. Rang false to me.

**CONTINUING SPOILER FROM ECHO****************

I’m with you. It not very believable to me. It did allow for some drama when Jamie came back, I suppose, and it got Grey captured and all that. But i agree, I was a little bummed about it.

Then again, in those 20 years when she thought Jamie was dead before, she did sleep with Frank, so…

FYI for those without Starz, there is now a DVD, Blue Ray, itunes and streaming Amazon version of the first 8 episodes. Show returns a month from today.

About dang time, too.

I finally finished the most recent book. Oh my, time is moving slowly! I was hoping she’d get to the end of the Revolution sometime soon but I think only one season went by in this book. Wasn’t it hot the whole time or am I forgetting something?

Also, there are loose ends and I’m sure I will forget their significance before the next book comes out. I was confused about what Roger and the other guy were doing and couldn’t remember why the other guy was there and it really didn’t matter. Authors should avoid this!

Roger and his great grandfather or whichever ancestor Mac was, you mean?

Yes. I couldn’t remember how Mac got so “out of time” and I had also forgotten that he had something to do with Roger being hung - about 3 books ago. Who can keep all this straight? She must have a horde of assistants.

There is a book by Gabaldon called The Outlandish Companion to help keep track of everything/everybody! Volume 2 is due to be out in October.

I have been eagerly awaiting today’s Droughtlander release but haven’t seen anything yet.

All I’ve seen are new posters. Usually it’s a trailer or something…

Maybe it’s just the posters?
