Okay, I was completely baffled by the last episode. Did I sleep through the chapters in the book where Claire runs around the countryside singing a Scottish version of “Boogie Woogie Bugal Boy” in order to draw Jamie near?
DH hasn’t read the books and only seemed to focus on wanting to know how they got Jenny’s breasts to appear to express milk, lol. He said this episode was the least compelling.
It was strange having an entire episode without Jamie. Murtagh was not a great substitute.
She did sing in the books of course, but I can’t recall what she sang. I agree weird to have no Jamie. Also spent a little too much time panning over her singing. The first series was fine, the second was a time waster. I am scared for next week.
She and Murtagh did go around singing together. I remember the books saying he actually had a really nice voice, but they didn’t dress up,nor did Murtagh do any sword dancing. I actually like watching Claire singing, but i agree they spent too much time with that…just as they spent too much time haveing them ride from place to place. The gypsy was a new thing…and i actually enjoyed that. I liked this episode, but in true Starz Outlander mode…it is just so darn SLOW. I can’t imagine staying with this show if I wasn’t already an Outlander fan. It’s been renewed for a 2nd year…but I wonder if that will be it.
I did enjoy Jenny and Claire…and I had to laugh NRDSb4, because I’ve been wondering the same thing as your husband.
What I find least compelling about this series, is that they didn’t capture the real Jamie and Claire from the books. Oh well, maybe nobody could have. It’s just that they’ve done a great job with the other characters! BJR, Geillis, Jenny, Ian…why not J&C?
There were gypsies in the book, that part was very book-like I thought. They didn’t copy the song/dance, but they did help C get to Dougal and the Macs.
That whole section from when Jenny and Claire leave together and when she arrives at the prison is a big blank for some reason. Will go back and re-read.
I found it beyond awkward when Claire was singing her Scottish version of boogie woogie bugle boy. Painful, actually, although she looked good in her men’s clothes.
@OHMomof2, she pretty much nailed it. I’ve never been victimized like that, yet I still may wait until the next day to read the reviews before I watch it.
Maybe these actresses aren’t mothers yet, but someone should have explained to the male director that breast milk does not come out in a single stream. More like 6, in various directions lol
I also found the song incredibly awkward. And Claire doesn’t raise an eyebrow when Murtaugh tells her he already heard this song, hello??
I said to DH that night, “You probably don’t remember this, but the milk doesn’t come out in one stream, more like 6, in various directions.” DH replied, “Oh yes, I DO remember!”
Love the series and the actors playing the leads. Last week’s episode was quite boring, though. I am up to book 2 and am having trouble getting through it. The start was interesting enough with SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT Clare back in modern time but when they reverted back, not so exciting. Should I bother to continue? It is 900 pages!
Yes…keep reading. I do remember the first time I read Book 2, I felt disappointment in it. It didn’t seem to live up to Outlander, although it wasn’t bad. It gets better and you better have Book 3 sitting next to you. My favorites are Book 1 and 3. It’s been so long since I’ve read books 2 and 4 I can’t remember which one I liked best…must be a tie.
I’ve often said my 2nd favorite book is from the middle of Book 2 to the middle of Book 3!
