If you are looking for a "green" college...

...please take a look at this link:

How green is your college? | Yahoo! Green

In addition to the Princeton Review list, the article provides links to several other "green" lists.

I would still focus on academics first, realizing that greenness is easier to achieve at some schools than others, due to definitions and factors beyond a school's control, such as climate and prexisting buildings et al.

I would disagree with the previous post. My D and I visited many of the top schools (based on academics) after she was accepted. The "greenness" of the school was often an indicator of the schools' values. Sustainability is not just a green roof. Several CA schools in the LA area (you know who you are) passed out hundreds of water bottles, and we could not find 1 recycling container (best tech school...).

So now it's not just the grass that's greener ...

Schools like Wisconsin recycle of course, but given the climate can't compete regarding use of resources- heating in the winter and snow removal, for example- with schools in environmentally friendlier climates. Lists of "green " schools do not examine the whole picture, the feasiblity of instituting those practices. I would still rather attend the better academic institution than a school whose best feature is its physical plant.

There are so few around campus it's kinda saddening. I'd really think they'd encourage the recycling bins with the five cent redemption value, too. When I was an undergrad at CMU there was always a recycling bin attached to every trash bin. Off the top of my head I can only think of three outside recycling bins on this campus. On the other hand, they are now installing solar panels on the top floor of all of the parking garages, but while doing so they had to chop down some of the trees that would be blocking their sun. Sometimes you just have to laugh.

Thank you RacinReave. yup - you're where I was talking about. there's a lot to say about smarts v common sense.
