If you are waiting for your ED 1 school do you have an ED 2 picked out if you don't get into your ED

1 school? Do you have the ED2 app ready to go or will you just rely on EA and RD decisions. I’m just curious since my D has an ED 2 app ready to go if necessary. I also wonder if admissions realizes that most ED 2 apps are from those not accepted to their favorite school and how it impacts decisions.

@citymama. I don’t know that most ED2s are from kids who got rejected at their ED1 school. But if that’s correct, I don’t think the ED2 school will care. I think they just want the yield protection ED2 gives.

My D went through this cycle last year and didn’t want to do an ED2 school. If she didn’t get in ED1 she was going to see what her RD results would be, but she applied to some EA schools as well to hopefully soften the blow if she got rejected ED1. BTW, we were very careful to immediately withdraw my D’s EA apps once she got into her ED1 school in order to help the EA schools with their yield reporting. Good luck to your kid!

@melvin123 Thank you. Glad it worked out for your daughter. Mine also applied to quite a few EA schools so there’s that safety net. The ED 2 school would be a school she liked almost as much as the first one. You’re right about yield. That makes a lot of sense.

ED2 seems like it only makes sense if a first choice ED1 or EA school delivers a rejection, and the ED2 school is the clear next choice that is affordable, right?

Or if it is your clear first choice that is affordable, but you just missed the ED1 deadline.

My D does. She has a clear 2nd choice so the decision to ED2 if necessary is easy.
