Ok I have been playing on my JV tennis team for 3 years. And usually people like me get into varsity simply because they played for 3 years but the problem is that I am considerably bad relative to varsity level tennis. Also, there are so many good underclassmen, I think I'll get cut. And I'm seriously considering not even trying out.

The point is, ff I only have 3 years of JV tennis on my application does that look bad? I mean will colleges think I'm a quitter or can I explain myself? Or will they understand that some people cant make varsity? I am applying to University of Michigan, Michigan State, UIUC, UC schools, and maybe NYU.

I've been in the swim team for 2 years if that is some kind of factor

I played varsity tennis and track my freshman and sophomore year, but I’m a girl, and I’ve been playing&running since like 3rd grade, so it’s a little easier. I quit both tennis and track for my junior year due to a knee injury.

It’s now my senior year and I’m doing marching band this fall. As long as you get yourself involved in clubs or anything else beneficial and don’t just sit at home and play video games, colleges will like that you’re broadening your horizons. I mean, sports are good, but there are other things out there.

I’d say, don’t worry about the application part…if you enjoy tennis and swimming, keep at it; if not, try something else.

Here, tennis is a spring season sport. If that’s the case for you, it wouldn’t really make a difference whether you made varsity or not. I’d check down participation in 12th grade though, just to show dedication at least.
