If you chance me...youll get in to your dream college

Yeah all I can say is do well in the Sat’s unlike me.
Chance an IB diploma Student for NYU?

Bumpppppppppp

bumpppppppp

The second bumppppp…need your chance :d

Hi THEDASHASH (funny name :P) even I’m applying to Regular Admission to NYUAD and believe me I just live a couple of buildings away from the Downtown Campus… so I’ve been to many info sessions they hosted, mashallah your IGCSEs and O-Levels are nice and especially your EC’s but I’ll go with everyone, you should take the SAT examination as for A-Levels they have these policies:
1.) The SAT Reasoning Test (that’s SAT I) and two AP, A-Level or AS-Level exam scores (that’s my criteria, even though I’ve done three)
or
2.) Three AS-Level scores (one in literature or the humanities, one in math or science, and one non-language of the student’s choice). O-Level scores, if available, should be provided with a student’s transcript. O-Level scores may not be submitted alone as a testing option.

So A-Levels are the deciders mainly but by standard in this country, a minimum of three are considered, if two are done then apparently I say take the SAT immediately and its way, way, way harder than IGCSEs (the English part, not the Maths one) as I did them too. I think that their deadline has passed so you may want to discuss your options with them. You are one subject less for application, sorry to say this. :(

Hey murtaza…nice to meet u and btw my name is mohamed ashmawy so Ash stands for ashmawy :stuck_out_tongue: seems weird I know  any how the thing is that here in Egypt they don’t teach neither humanities nor literature as an As subject so that was what I had to do !!! As for the sat I am really planing on taking it soon maybe next month or something…I am really glade to meet an arab like me in this forum…btw if u didn’t mind what were your score?? oh and do u know how many others applied??? I am very nervous these days :D

Having read your essays, I think you have a shot at this. If I were you, I would elaborate more on where I come from, how my background has affected me, and how I think I will diversify a college. One thing I noticed from your essays is that you keep complimenting or “flirting” with NYU Abu Dhabi, maybe try to ease that a little bit and give more information about yourself.

I read your essays carefully because we are pretty much similar. I am also an Arabic-speaking student who wishes to get admitted to U.S universities. I live in Israel, though. I surmise you are the only individual applying to NYU from your school, or even district (?). You could have said a few words about it.

Your EC’s are quite decent. I am looking forward to knowing your SAT scores.

Good luck!

Chance me back ?

I think you have a great shot since you look to be the type of student NYU is looking for. However, it is extremely hard to tell without an SAT score, so do well on those and I don’t see why you wouldn’t get in! Good Luck!

Ashmawy nice to meet ya, im pakistani btw not an arab but its OK, abt SAT its kinda hard in Eng but Math is way easy, Math - 730 but 480 and 490 in Writing and Critical Reading so i discussed this situation with them and they said (as usual) tht there is no minimum but if you have given TOEFL or IELTS, submit them as well (honestly, they say that these tests are not a deciding test option and that it just boosts ur app strength but I think it does, i got 104 in TOEFL, yippee :D) if u did u shud submit too as language proficiency is really important since O-Level are not a test option alone, man i’m nervous too A-levels exams on my head in few days so busy studyin’, hope inshallah we BOTH get accepted in NYUAD, we’ll have fun man!, i’ll tell you something abt Abu Dhabi(AUH in short) that the students NYUAD is looking apparently are hardly present in AUH or in this country, ppl are too laid back, and just want to relax all the time, ur ECs and Grades tell me tht u aren’t tht kind of a guy. lets just hope tht we see each other Fall 2010, inshallah Aal Izz Well :P

man…that would be great…a new hard working friend :D…the best way to start college  hopr u want computer science as i do…btw…do u know how many people applied cause i think both of us have a very good shot at this if the number of students applying arent that much…the last thing i heard is that there are like 20 students from egypt?? so do u know anything?? hey add me on facebook " Mohamed Essam Ashmawy" ok?? waiting 4 u :D

Bumppppppppppp :d

I sent you a request on fb… Murtaza Ali. Man, yh, we all need a hard-working environment :stuck_out_tongue: actually i had a kind of tragedy with computer science ;'( while in 10th or was it mid-9th i guess … yh it was 9th and we got a Sri Lankan ***** (no offense to other SLs) as our computer teacher, and i actually lacked in economics just to get high marks in comp. sci. and one day i was so fed up as she just biased one guy in our whole class (i dunno if they had a one-night-stand too :P) and our department head was angry at all of us as she gave all work and did everything in his book, she even helped the damn guy in his IGCSE project but refused when we asked her to do some things so i just dropped it… its a nice subject though… i like maths and sciences but i always wanted to do a major in film studies (its nice when you could make Avatar 2 u know :P), lol, and yeah about ppl applying to NYUAD, most people are skeptical about it, as according to most people i’ve found:
1.) It’s new and there are no benchmarks for comparison (now NYU is trying to guarantee better tuition here than the original and i think it might be like that, think abt the $63000 tag again)
2.) It’s fees is too high (yh well Harvard’s, MIT’s, Yale’s are high and they’re worth it too man, and actually NYUAD’s fees is 10-12000 dollars more than these o.O)
3.) Engineering is not focused at original campus so its bad (well to be honest Mohamed they’re right on this one as NYU is mostly known for its arts and humanities courses rather than science BUT according to sources they opened up here to offer everything at high standards including sciences hopefully)
4.) It’ll be flop just like Paris-Sorbonne (u shud hav heard abt it, its one of the renown universities in France and Europe and they opened up in 2006 here in AUH but they didn’t got much students so it was flop, well to me it’s a public university and mostly they’re flop although Oxford and Cambridge are excluded and in America evry1 knows that private-beats-public in education so it should not be like that here, and they even set higher benchmarks for admission for both faculty as well as students of course compared to their original so it’s a hot situation u see.
Sorry if I deviated too much but wht can I do, I’m bored (exam nerves/approaching). So approximately many people are rejecting the idea as I told you before, people are not very hard-working here except for some which have either considered other unis here or applied abroad but only abt i’ll say 1-4% have considered this as an option, from my school itself only 3 ppl have applied including me, so let just hope others from here and all over world apply lesser or not at all :stuck_out_tongue: it’ll increase our chances but idk the site mentions somewhere that they’re actually focusing more on Middle East and South Asia for applicants. nywayz tc bro :)
