If you could get any Laptop, what would you get and why?

i would get a shuttle computer, not a laptop but meh. After having a laptop for one quarter, i've realized how useless they were. I never took it to class to take notes (if i did, i ended up on AIM wasting time).

hobofromdowntown,

How do you figure?

By the way, if you build a shuttle-style microATX system, be ready for cooling issues.

well, like i said, i rarely took it to class. Plus, you can build a desktop for cheaper and with lcd monitors you can save space as well. Plus they are better for other tasks coughgamingcough but i wouldn't know about that since i study 8 hours a day like every CC addict here.

True. Outside of gaming, however, there's little that I feel would really make a desktop a better solution for the space conscious college student.

Wow..... again, I see a lack of "I want ASUS!!!"

Anyways, I'd take an ASUS W3J...

Dual-core, up to 2 gigs RAM, 14" WXGA widescreen, ATI RADEON X1600, 100GB 5400rpm HD.

All of this on top of a notebook that's only 4.8 pounds... drool... and since it's ASUS Ensemble, you know it's gonna look really sexy :)

Another option: ASUS W5F (the one I'm getting for college)

Core Duo, up to 1.5 gigs RAM, 12.1" WXGA widescreen, Intel GMA950 (well, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need uber-powerful graphics), 100 GB 5400rpm HD.

All this in a 12 inch notebook that weighs 4 pounds! Plus, the sleek build of the W5F rivals those of the macbooks. That's always a plus

Just MacOS X. In my opinion, as someone who has used UNIX/Linux on the desktop for about eight years, and who uses it every day at work, UNIX on the desktop has been solved, and its name is OS X.
