majors philosophy if that makes a difference =]

either one of them is good since you’re major is PHILOSOPHY, but I would give UCSD a slight edge

I was a one-quarter student at UCI and I’ve taken classes at UCSD.

UCSD all the way. Granted, I live here, so I’m biased, but UCI didn’t do anything for me.

what turned you off about UCI? I’ve been enjoying my time here actually.

I went to visit UCI and I liked it.

@peterr86: I’m a bad example to use, since my bias is pretty thick, haha.

Due to a giant cluster during my original transfer process, I had to go to UCI and then sit out for two quarters before going to UCSD this upcoming fall.

UCI is a nice campus, actually a really nice campus, but it was completely dead when I was there last quarter. Felt like a giant community college.

UCSD, no doubt, great city, beaches, women, SDstate parties, amazing weather, lots of things to do in spare time.

I go to UCSC though…I suggest it over all of those :)

UCSC’s Philosophy program is really cool too. The location is great for that sort of major, especially if you live on campus, which is in the forest up the hill just a few miles from the beach. I do prefer the warmer water of SD but learned and like the waves better in SC. UCSC is also on the quarter system and if do summer session can knock every class out of the way plus cool electives in two years. The bachelors major is basically a year of history of philosophy (3 classes) plus whatever 5 upper division classes are available on a rolling basis. Choices may be chosen from big names, movements/time periods, meta, phen, ethics, philosophy of law, mind, science, sexuality or emotions etc.

@Grimes

I’m actually going to UCI for the first time to visit a friend. Giant community college, eh? hmm…I can use that to ■■■■■ her.

@Levonid: Haha yeah that’s the feeling I got from the place. It’s a really nice campus and the center park is amazing, but it’s really REALLY quiet. A lot of people commute as well, which adds up to it feeling (to me, anyway) like a commuter school.

My brother went to UCI and I have 10+ friends attending UCSD right now. I would say UCSD all the way. After UCB and UCLA it is by far the 3rd best UC in the system for housing, the city, the beaches, the campus, the people, the classes, the professors, the parties, and all the other things that go into making a college attractive to prospective students.

If I lived in San Diego I would consider going to UCSD over UCLA

Funny…I remember everyone used to call UCSD UC Socially Dead but nowadays everyone seems to say otherwise.

Ya i guess that true unless your socially open, and really go out to clubs and different events. It’ll be pretty hard to find thing to do here on weekends.

I found my experience much more satisfying. I transfered last fall as well, fall quarter went out to a bunch of clubs and really put myself out there. I think though that because i transfered with my girlfriend it made it alot more interesting.

Since when you go out to a event you atleast know 1 person. You don’t feel quite as awkward. It allowed me to really put myself out there and meet a bunch of really smart and interesting people.

However i do see your point. UCI on weekends is completely dead if you know no one. However alot of people live on campus or near it from what i have seen, and every weekend theres always a kickback or party somewhere going on. Just gotta make the right friends.

Nothing like going to class then getting out and driving 5 minutes to Laguna beach or Newport beach. UCI’s central location to all of OC is really nice to go anywhere, pending you have a car at least.

I’m mulling between UCI and UCD. I don’t get the UCSD part, it’s not that much better XD

UCSD for sure because its one of the top UC and its beautiful there :)

UCD is awesome. I got into UCSD last year but decided not to go because I would rather go to Davis then UCSD if I can’t get into UCLA or UCB.

LOL thats what i was thinking!!! everyone else seems to be ignoring Davis completely! socal vs. norcal is a big decision as well. im from san francisco, so its a toughy

I wouldn’t advise Davis at all, even for a Philo major. Irvine or San Diego

Davis over irvine anytime.

I would say UCSD.
