"covenant with death"?

That sent shivers down my spine.

My law is somewhat the opposite. I would require that people prove their competency as parents before being allowed to have children. Whether that would require frequent abortions for those unfit or just a clause that requires all people beyond puberty to be on some long term form of birth control is irrelevant to me.

All elected officials can only serve ONE term.

That way, the point of being a politician isn't to get re-elected. :)

Extreme carbon caps which would include banning oil, no more importation of illegal lumber, and using sugarcane ethanol, hydrogen, solar or wind power for everything.

that's a really great idea unleashed. most officials do better work in their first term anyway(probably to get re-elected)

^^^ Wouldn't that kind of term limit severely deplete the number of willing participants in our government? There aren't endless numbers of qualified and willing people for such jobs, especially at the local level, where terms are short and positions are numerous.

^ I don't know about depleting participants, but the problem with everyone having just 1 term (and it is a good idea, theoretically) is that not much will get done. Basically everyone will be a Lame Duck (I don't know why I capitalized it) the moment they are elected.

legalize it, I'm taking a huge tolerance break this semester and focusing on college apps though

Ban all foods, spices, etc. containing "Hydrogenated (insert oil here)". I think Sweden already did it a while back, if not another country. This is trans fat for all of you who don't know, and when you have a food that says 0g trans fat with that ingredient, it just means that it's under 0.5g of it.

Meaning, you could have 30 servings in a bag of chips with 0.499 grams trans fat if you were binge eating one day, ending up with about 15g.

Anyway, it would also screw over McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Dunkin Donuts, Burger King, and so on to finally start making healthy foods. Trans fat is permanent fat and can never be lost; it is spread everywhere throughout the body and can cause death easily through strokes or heart attacks.

I'd ban all factory farms. It's horrible what occurs millions of times a day in these hidden places.

It wouldn't. When I hear the word politician, I don't think of a career. Participation in government should be way more open than it is. If being a congressman sounds a lot less appealing to you because you could only serve one term, you probably wanted the job for the wrong reasons anyway.

I look at it almost like jury duty. How ridiculous would it be to be a juror for your whole life?

Besides, that kind of a term limit would force more people to be involved in government. Many voices would be heard that otherwise would not. What more of a democracy could you ask for?

not much will get done

I disagree. The fact that they will only be serving for 2, 4, or 6 years will be more of an incentive to get something done. And you can't really use that argument because our government is ridiculously inefficient at getting things done.

I'm glad you brought this up. The entire concept of a lame duck is completely ridiculous when you think about, and it proves my point even more. Once politicians know that they can't get re-elected, it's almost as though they no longer have any responsibilities. Watching the news makes it seem like Bush is just the cool guy who hangs out with the Olympic athletes in China, and that we won't really have a president until Obama or McCain is elected. He's still the president! It makes no sense. The (stupid) mindset that a politician's job is to get re-elected would go away immediately because everyone would only have one shot to accomplish their goals.

And before anyone even mentions it, I don't buy the argument that experience is necessary to get things done. I've seen no definitive correlation between experience and competence.
