“Completion of all of the requirements in the (IGETC) will permit a student to transfer from a community college to a campus in either the California State University or University of California system without the need, after transfer, to take additional lower division, general education courses to satisfy campus general education requirements.”
This says to me that if i don’t finish the entire IGETC before transfer, i have to take the general ed requirements of whatever school i transfer too. Anyone know if thats actually what happens?
It would really suck because i would more than likely have ended up taking unnecessary classes. Like heres an example of what i mean: if a school requires 1 history class and 2 econ classes, but i took 3 history classes for my IGETC. Now i wasted 2 semesters
edit: I ended up finding my answer, not sure how to delete thread but i’ll post answer just in case someone else wanted to know:
“Students who do not complete IGETC before transferring will be required to satisfy the specific lower-division general education/breadth requirements of the UC college or school they attend. However, California community colleges may grant partial certification of IGETC to students who are missing no more than two requirements. Students submitting partial IGETC certification should complete the missing requirements at either UC or a California community college as designated by their department. Students who have been granted partial IGETC certification should not return to the community college for a full certification.”
