I'm a high school senior trying to finalize what university to attend in the fall. As of yet, I'm wondering whether it's worth footing the bill for prestigious schools as opposed to accepting full rides from average schools. I received a full scholarship from St. John's University, and I'm wondering if a medical school would still accept me even if I didn't go to the most top notch school ever.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks!

As long as you have an excellent GPA, MCAT Scores, and have done ecs that show a deep interest in the medical field, you will be a competitive candidate for medical schools across the country.

Name does make a difference, but it does not guarentee anything. Mind you I’m sure that medical schools will be taking students with 4.0s from Harvard over you, but with a 4.0 and excellent MCAT scores from your school you will most probably get into a medical school still

What “prestigious schools” did you get accepted to?

Just found out today I didn’t get accepted to any so I guess this problem doesn’t necessary apply lol.

same question here… Got rejected from all 6- “top ten” schools I had applied too.
Will it matter that much?

It matters more to have an excellent GPA and high MCAT. I think for most medical schools in the US, you are going to need at least 3.5/4.0 in college. If you have 3.3, even from HYPS, you are not likely to get into medical school. So no matter which school you get into, try your best.
