I am only a sophmore but I am just curious since princeton is my favorite of all colleges and universities. I know that CC contains some of the top applicants, but I just want to open this topic up for discussion. They don't just disregard anyone without an A average, right? Other things factor in. Should someone with a 90% average even bother applying ED? What are everyone's oppinions on this?

Hopefully I will have an A average by the time I apply but I just would liek to know for future reference. Thanks!

Also, has anyone here taken the new SAT? Was it hard?

It is a B average at mine. I am taking the toughest course load, but my school does not offer APs. I am in all honors offered and next year I will be able to take college credit Calculus. My school has grade inflation I believe, and is not well known. It is in Green Bay. Most of it is just memorization instead of anilytical thinking and paper writing-- so I am sometimes just lazy and do not study as much as I should. I love to write papers but here they do not even care if they are gramatically correct or anything. None of this is an excuse but err I miss Illinois! lol...anyways, I am just worried because no one from my school ever applies to any top schools. We are a private school with some smart people but most people just like to stay in WI. 7 people from our school last year applied to Notre Dame and none of them, not even our 2nd in class, got accepted. Our school is not well known and I do not want Princeton to not be interrested in me just because our school does not have any sort or reputation.

I am in yearbook
I will be on the newspaper ( I have to get through Journalism 1 first)
I take piano and violin lessons for fun--I do not know if I would be good enough for the princeton orchestra)
I am in the Green Bay Student orchestra-my school does not have an orchestra
I will have many service hours both within and out of my school
I am a school ambassador
I am in French Club (seriously fun)
I am in Triton Club ( I help plan pep rallies and stuff)
I will be finished with Calc 2 and maybe 3 if I take a summer course at Northwestern by the end of highschool
This summer I am going on a 2 week school trip to France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Lightenstein(however you spell that lol)
I believe that I will apply engineering--first I will go to a program to look more into it. It is a big commitment and I want to make sure beforehand that I like it.
I am a white female
I love Princeton!!!!!!
I think I will apply ED

I am not trying to post a chances thread, I just want to have an idea about whether or not I am on the right track. I figure it is better to figure this stuff out early. I only put down the stuff that I know I will have by the end of highschool. I will only do what I actually enjoy doing. I am not in any clubs that I do not want to be in. That is my same problem with classes like Biology. If I am not interrested in them I do not work hard at them..:-(

Philntex: I knew that--how does everyone make the faces? I need one that blushes lol.

Justlikethis and newt: thanks for the reassurance!

A 90 tends to be about a B+/A- average at many schools. I don't think it would hurt your application if the rest of it is strong, which it seems to be from the list you've given. I'm sure your SAT scores will be high, and then you'll be set.

Oh yea, and I am write for the Green Bay Press -Gazette. It is a teen opinion column that shows on Friday in our local newspaper. The other newspaper I mentioned is just the school newspaper.

Thanks kat...hopefully you are right about the my SAT scores! I just hope that my grades don't make me look bad compaired to the rest of my class. I am afraid that I will not be int he top 10% because the grades are not weighted:-(

yea i also fall under the 4.0 unweighted GPA line... but since the transcript is the most important aspect of an application, i'm hoping they'll also look at the type of classes I took more than the grades.

Sometimes kids underneath 4.0 are still 1/whatever for their class...thats kind of annoying if you go to a good school and your rank gets screwed up because of it.

However, I think princeton re-scales gpa based on their own standard. Also, they don't have my class rank, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for that.

Yeah i also find it annoying that students are rank #1, but with a poor GPA, but I go to a really competitive school and as a result, my rank isn't that great.

my UW is 3.84, but Im ranked 8/454.... Top 2%, that's good enough for me. Taking toughest courseloads as well...

Also, Yes transcript is VERY important, but i read in the book "How to get into Ivy Colleges" (or something like that), that if you have a decent A average GPS and REALLY HIGH test scores, they'll subtlely think you were just BORED with your schoolwork. Not sure if its true, but what the hey, what do i know?

Also, does Princeton not count FRESHMAN Grades? I got 3 B's that year... ugh..

I thought I read somewhere that Princeton doesn't count freshman grades... haha I used to wish that Princeton wouldn't count my sophomore grades, which were utterly horrible.

Lol I like that... "BORED with your schoolwork."

Haha.. but I don't think a few Bs really matter THAT much.. I mean, I think the majority of Princeton applicants are all very qualified academically, it's just the little things that makes us different that probably determine if we get in or not.
