If you get accepted to a school restrictive/binding EA/ED, should you still apply to other schools?

If you get accepted to a school restrictive/binding EA/ED, should you still apply to other schools regular/rolling admission?

Let’s say I got accepted to Stanford, who release acceptance letters EA by 12/15. Should I still apply to other schools regular decision?, just in case I get bad financial aid? When does Stanford tell you how much aid you get if you get accepted EA? Thanks

ED and EA are two different things.

ED means that you have committed to attend if the financial aid offer (which should be given at the time) is sufficient.

EA means that you are not committed, so you can wait until the usual matriculation date and compare offers with those from other schools. The restrictive aspect of Stanford EA is just your agreement not to apply EA to other private schools (with some exceptions as listed on Stanford’s web site).

You can still apply to other schools if you pursue ED or restrictive EA.

With ED you must withdraw all other applications if you are accepted, unless cost is an issue. If you are rejected, you will keep your other applications in the game.

Restrictive EA is something else entirely. It just means you can’t apply EA anywhere else. You can still apply RD elsewhere and wait for April/May to make your decision.

Yes, you should apply to other schools. Consider it a risk reduction strategy.

You should definitely apply to other schools.
With ED, you would have to rescind your other apps if you were accepted, but you don’t want to be deferred or even rejected in the ED round and have no other apps ready for different colleges.
With EA, you don’t have to make a decision until May 1, so you should certainly apply to other schools besides your EA school.
