If you get in............

is anyone applying somewhere else for reasons other than aid?

*my 100th post! nothing compared to davidrune, beth, and chidimma, but it's something

of course! I'm applying to a slew of other schools based on their classical voice programs. yale is my first choice, though, because of their opera department in the school of music.

I'm in the same position as frecklybeckly (except I can't sing worth a darn... I'm looking for violin programs). Frecklybeckly (I feel absurd calling you that), are you applying to strict conservatories, too? I'm applying to a mix of programs, so as to postpone the decision about how to balance music and everything else until April. Good luck.

If I don't get in, I'll be applying to 7 other schools (Bard, Harvard, Lawrence, Oberlin*, Sarah Lawrence, USC, Wesleyan; *=double degree with music conservatory (piano) ).

IIIIFFFFFFFF I get in..........

I'll have applied to USC anyway, because the deadline for scholarship applications is 10 Dec. In addition, I'll probably apply to Harvard, maybe Bard and Oberlin because of their double degree programs, and compare financial aid offers. Like many have pointed out, however, Yale's financial aid would REALLY have to suck for me to choose, say, even Harvard over Yale! (OK, maybe if by some miracle I actually get into both Harvard and Yale and both financial aid offers are reasonable, which they should be since they meet full demonstrated need, I'll probably fly to the States to visit both schools. That's a really big IF!)

Your post just made me realize I completely forgot to fill that question in!!!!! Ahhhhh what should I do? I kept meaning to got back to it and then somehow, on my last 40 or so check-overs of the app, I didn't notice how blank those lines were. yeaahhh Should I send in a quick explanation? Or email something? What do you think?

er...where on the app was that question? I didn't even know that it asked that...

yea, i dont tell schools what other schools im planning on applying to. its none of their business. and its not even on the common application. but its on some suppliments.

I didn;t either

No I think Lucy meant the "why Yale" question. Uh-oh indeed, I guess you'd better e-mail them ASAP!

Regarding the "what other schools you applied to" question on some supplements - I know Oberlin has it - I think I'll only list down the school's immediate competitors, or similar schools, and Yale (because that's my top choice) - for example, for Oberlin, I'll only put down Bard, Lawrence and Yale.

I was talking about the "Why Yale" question. Do you think I should email them about it or mail in a response- I submitted my app through the mail-?

If I were you, I'd use e-mail - it's much faster and safer.

If, if, if I get in, I'm definitely still applying elsewhere - to Columbia, Northwestern, UNC and USC for sure - my school is making me apply to UVA for Jefferson Scholars - and I might give a shot at a few more Ivies. But I don't really think I'm going to get in, so whatever....

I have to turn in all of my application stuff before school gets out on December 16th. Soooo, I have to apply all over the place because I won't know whether or not I will be going to Yale. BUT, if I get into Yale that is where I am going.

Why can't you submit your applications on your own, and give stamped envelopes to your school to send the other stuff (recs, school report, transcript, etc.)? That's what my school asked us to do. So, if I get into Yale, many schools are going to be getting my recs and stuff but no application from me. (In fact, 3 schools have already got one of my teacher recs but won't be getting any application from me - I'd given my teachers all my envelopes but then decided to change 3 of my schools, but before I gave them the new envelopes one of the teachers already sent them off! So Princeton, JHU and Amherst have a tantalizing glimpse of my wonderful character but won't be hearing from me again! =D )

Yup, I'm applying to Curtis, Juilliard, and Northwestern's School of Music. However, I'm looking to take advantage of the opportunities at each school based on my academics at a nearby school, like UPenn, Columbia, or Northwestern.

wow, at my school, if u get into a college with SCEA, our guidance counselor forbids you from applying anywhere else, so its basically like doing regular ED.

I'll be going if I get in. I really dislike the idea of EA, and feel schools should only offer ED - you should only get the advantage of applying early if it is absolutely the only school for you. You are allowed out of the ED contract if you can't afford the school, so I don't think there is any reason you should apply early to a school unless you are certain you are going to go if accepted, with the only way out being to go to a cheaper school.

I so agree with you Kit!

I sent in the application. I got a letter saying the admissionscom received my materials. And recently I got a likely letter. However I certainly don't remember a "why yale" question. ???
