Can you always inquire as to why your admission got rejected? Not rudely, but to ask so you can better yourself as a person?

I don't know, it might be a completely asinine thing to do. What are your thoughts?

I tried that when I was waitlisted last year for RD but they didn’t give me a straight answer -the one who corresponded was the Associate Director of Admission. Sometimes, they’re kind enough to tell you the reason, often times, they won’t disclose that info due to, I suspect, a) it’s too much of a hassle to skim through old post its about so-and-so? b) they want to avoid any potential lawsuits?

shrugs

Still though, no harm picking up the phone and asking anyway.

Yeah I tried that with one school and got an answer (SAT scores not matching the average SAT scores). (This was for RD).

but most don’t disclose them. Definetely can’t hurt to ask though.
