If you get waitlisted...are you supposed to send in 2nd semester grades?

absolutely.
your second semester grades would give them a reason to reconsider your admission, especially if you perform well!

my second semester doesn't end until june...aren't waitlist decisions sent out in may?

actually, i'm not sure.
but if you have your heart set on going to princeton, don't give up & be sure to have your high school send in the "final report." s2 grades are one thing that could persuade them into offering you admission...

if u get waitlisted at pton dont u have like 0.00005% chance of getting off it it anyways cuase usually theres like 4 ppl each year who get off of it?

there are years that 0 get off of it but this is suppose to be the year of the waitlist. i think pton expects to take several off because of no ED.

i've heard they've taken 0 ppl but they've also taken 75...but the ivies waitlist upwards of like, 500, sooooo.....

also, unique to princeton: can't transfer in. this RD round is our only shot.

wait--disclaimer--i don't actually know that the no-transfer thing is unique to princeton, i just haven't heard about it anywhere else...haha just wanted to preemptively say that so nobody would get all huffy/sagacious about it. you know how it is around here.

This year the admissions office expects to take a large number of students off the wait-list, perhaps even in the range of 150 - 250.

Admissions told me last fall that they may take 100 off the wait list this year.

GR ELton: thanks for the information! where'd you get it, out of curiosity?

oh really? thats awesome! too bad im not planning on doing anything of the sort like interns or w/e to help my case if i happend to get waitlisted...hahah im playing rec soccer.

how many ppl are waitlisted usually? or are going to get waitlisted this year

Rapelye added that, because of this year's uncertainty about expected yield, her office will initially admit a "conservative" number of students and then possibly take "several hundred students off the wait list."

Taking many from waitlist is not really a good news for the initial regular admission phase. This means that they want to absolutely make sure that they don't go over the target class size of 1240-1250 by offering smaller number of regular admissions. They then fill the shortfall of matriculated students from the waitlist. Another aspect of this is to keep the admit rate low. The initial admit rate this year will be lower than last year because of this reason, not to mention that there are more applicants this year, which also will contribute to the lower admit rate.

Umm...anyone have an answer to my initial question about 2nd semester grades?

wow! this is somewhat reassuring. it almost gives those waitlisted individuals a second chance to make their case, through less-than-traditional means.

thanks, GR Eltong.

as to collegebound's question, i would do so, certainly.

Yes. If one person went down hill second semester and someone else kept their grades up, there will be a difference.

annoying. Especially since I've been slacking and stuff.

I need to get over it and reject my spot on the waitlist.

yes is the answer.
