The portfolio or audition (or whatever supplemental stuff is required for the department you want to join) is the most important. If you are really talented and NYU sees great potential in you, nothing should stand in the way of your acceptance. Good Luck !</p>
<p>Yeah, not necessarily true, pinkearmuffs. My cousin and her friend both auditioned for Tisch for this coming year. They're both super talented, the friend probably even more talented than my cousin. My cousin is also a good student, 3.9 gpa, 1490 SATs, high 700's on SAT II's. Her friend wasn't a great student, 1200 SATs and about a 3.3 gpa. My cousin got him, her friend didn't. When he called to ask why he didn't, he was told that his audition was great but that academically he wasn't good enough this year. They weigh each part 50% so they said you have to be good with both, so the audition isn't most important, it's equally important. Anyway, her friend is going to CMU instead because there apparently it's 90% audition. So yeah, if you're looking at drama, littlebeach, that's how it is. I've heard that the other departments at Tisch are more likely to take you if your stats aren't quite high enough but not drama.</p>
<p>I'm actually looking at the film and t.v department. What have you heard about this? My GPA is good, 4.5 w/4.0u (cum. 3.9 u.w) but my SAT's are horrible, about a 1200. I'm taking the ACT in june, hoping for a 32 or higher and retaking the SAT in October. What do you think my chances might be? (And for portfolio, I have lots of film experience, I'm auditing a college class, work with local filmmakers, applied for the NYU summer film program, and am working on several short films)</p>
<p>I got into nyu film with a 1390 sat, average sat II's of 750, and a 3.8w (it's impossible to go over a 4.0 at my school), so I'm not the greatest academically. But, I randomly got into harvard...(probably going to nyu over the big H)</p>

<p>Well, consider that 35% of people at harvard have worse sat's than me. Anyway, I didn't really have a hook. Maybe film related...I've taken 10 ap's, so thats a reason my gpa is lower...My interview was good, I spent a lot of time on my essay. My parents went to harvard graduate school, but I was told that this does not effect my chances at all...</p>
<p>well, you have to be pretty stellar to get into harvard, and SATs are only one factor, so you should be really proud, congrats!</p>
