see, parents that grew up in india/china/korea/bangladesh know that was common so it really isn’t a big deal.

i get a spanking like every other day lolzzz

Yes, but only if I was doing it calmly. Usually the idea of a spanking scares a child enough. Nothing hard, just occasionally if they are being very disrespectful. But the child has to know that the parent is reluctant to spank the child, and is only doing so because of the child’s actions.

lol my parents threaten to hit me for every little wrong thing i do.

esp when i dont practice my instrument, my mom threatens to hit me

it’s kind of funny at this point

Military parents are spanking fiends. I have beat marks and remember vividly getting beat. Coupled with my childhood, it’s no wonder I ended up cold and near emotionless.

Likewise… my children will not deal with the same thing. I desire strongly to be opposite of what my parents were, and I prefer to be calm and methodical in my discipline.

thats great!
10 char

Nothing instills discipline like a good ole’ beatdown. We need to go back to the days when a child was seen and not heard. Kids these days think they are the center of the universe. Nothing a good whoopin’ wont straighten out.

Nope.
Parents never spanked me. I won’t spank my kids.

^ You’re back! :)

^ Meh. I have worked nearly 40 days in a row (including Sundays). Haven’t exactly had time to burn :p.

But I’ve been around, just not on HSL. I lurk here, but there’s rarely threads worth posting in.

I will probably disappear again.

Yes.

I would never beat a child. But spanking can be useful.

I was spanked and I’m a perfectly well-behaved person. lol

When I got spanked, I deserved it. My dad always used the 1-2-3 system. If he got to 3, then I really did deserve it. Otherwise, if I lied, then I’d get spanked. (Well, if I lied and then he asked me if I lied and I lied again… then he’d spank me!) I always got 2-3 chances, so it was definitely my fault.

I want to have a lot of children. I love kids. I want a family.

May I recommend adoption after two or three kids come out of you?

Sorry, I’m not going to lie, people with big families irritate me when we have thousands of neglected kids in foster care -.-

I feel the same way about this, however I have seen a lot of parents these days who don’t actually want a child after the first one.

^ I am perfectly fine with that.

But when people start squirting out three, four, five + kids, I get angry. You have the resources to take care of kids, so why not put it to better use? JMO.

Actually… I only want to adopt.

I want to adopt lots of kids.

I’ve been wanting to, but then I found out that I have a 66.67% chance of being a carrier of muscular dystrophy, and that just had me sold. I have to go to the geneticist next week…

But I really want to adopt kids.

Nice to assume otherwise… haha. Jk. I know that’s what most people mean.

^ Well generally when people say that want to have a lot of kids, they physically mean the kids come out of them :p

And I don’t begrudge people who want to have large families, I just ask after a few come out of a person, that they take that money and space and all that and adopt rather than make a new person.

They use paddles in frat houses. Thats wierd.

I’ll probably the rare one in saying that I am definitely open to spanking my kids. I am just so sick of going to the grocery and seeing a mother with a screaming, bad, yelling 4 or 5 year old while the mother is just going “no, stop, you’re bad, you’re grounded” and then goes on with her life. My mother used to take me to the bathroom and give me a good spank or two and you better believe that I never acted up in public again.

When you’re younger a good spank or two isn’t detrimental to a child’s development. Now if you’re beating the crap out of your child than there’s a problem. But a slap on the bum here and there isn’t a bad thing.

I was spanked as a child and I turned out just fine. Hell, I’m still slapped sometimes today and I"m 15 about to be 16.

I’m just sick of seeing parents that rely on timeout for punishment. I honestly don’t believe in the parenting style of being your child’s best friend. I want my kids to be comfortable around me but not too comfortable where they act up and do bad, inappropriate things…

haha. I’m also guessing that you’re from the South, though I could be wrong. (UNC… as in North Carolina?)

But yeah… After helping raise my sister… I just don’t see how saying “Okay. Time out.” works.

Spanking is not beating. Spanking doesn’t cause major psychological issues down the line like beating does. Beating is terrible.

UNC chapel hill is my dream school! But I was pretty much raised in northern Virginia so I guess you could say I’m southern but I don’t really count Northern Virginia as the South.

But there is a huge difference between beating someone and spanking someone. Now a couple slaps on the wrist or even getting the belt out (and we all know what that means) is not horrible. I actually think it’s very effective! Oh well that and extremely long lectures!

Saying “time out” is definitely not effective especially for a smaller child…at least from what I’ve seen.
