Yeah, I would do it again. It's screwed up right now. REAL screwed up. I would still do it again.

Wait until you discover the meaning of "real." In time.

Hang in there. This too shall pass with nary one loss. Probably, unlike plebe summer, not even a few elbees.

jamtex- will second WP... hang in.....

LOL. You ain't kidding. :) :(

I personally hate how everyone drags out the academy "scandals" as reasons not to go here. I lived in a college town all my life, and there was certainly more drinking/carousing/sexual misconduct going on than there is at the academy, it's just that we live in a fishbowl and everyone (ie, Baltimore Sun, Washington Post, Congress) loves to point out our isolated events that are IMHO honestly less than anything someone would have to handle at, say, a state university. I love it here (despite the changes). Everyone gets depressed and badmouths it every once in a while...it's what teenagers do :) Let your kid decide for themself.

My dad, class of '54 would absolutely choose The Naval Academy again.

Amen. Anyone who draws conclusions of ANY kind based solely upon what they read in the local papers is seriously misinformed.

Amen. As a Plebe-hopeful residing in Baltimore, I find at least an article a week in the Sun bashing USNA. People often ask me why i want to go to this scandalous institution so bad. It is like they believe everything they read.

Right on. Funny, but my mid mentioned nothing about the food thing ... UNTIL yesterday, when he said, "Have you seen the article in the BS?" Seems for him, it was unworthy of comment until the media informed him of his hungry situation.

What a classic scenario of how we allow media to shape our views.

ditto for mine, he said nothing about it. I ended up asking him if he was getting enough to eat since he did say he dropped 4 pounds this past week and he replied with a non committal...well yea, most of the time...added he went shopping to upgrade his snack stores. Said nothing about the pending changes beyond "some of the upperclassmen aren't happy"

as far as "news" reporting goes, while the distribution of newspapers may be way down there are still lots of people reading them with the assumption most of what they read is 100% on the mark. I wish every citizen had the opportunity to hold some elected office for at least as long as it takes them to interact with the media, newspapers, tv whatever. It will be the eye opener of their lives. During my service if I was quoted and my comments reported by any of our local or regional newspapers and they got 50% of what I said half right I considered it a miracle. And that was with reporters that didn't have an axe to grind on an issue.... god help you if they were going for some spin of their own..

Bump. Bump.

OK, GA, what's with the speed bumps on every thread? I started this thread to try to get current and former mids to state clearly their reasons for/against attending USNA, hopefully in an objective manner. My reason was to keep first and foremost in the minds of prospective mids (and to some extent, their parents) the pros AND cons of attending a service academy and giving a career of service, so they can make the most informed decision possible. It has obviously devolved into other stuff. I would still encourage anyone who hasn't given their views on the original point to do so. My thanks to those who have. I assure you that my prospective mid has read all of it.

His attempt to make one of the prior threads 'go away' by moving it down the list.

Blame him? Wouldn't that be nice.

Too obvious......might back-fire on him.
