If you had my stats, where would you apply?

If you had my scores, ECs, etnicity, etc. where would you aim for reaches, matches, and safeties. I would prefer somewhere urban and not rural, but if there's like mountains and stuff I'd be fine with that :)

My stats are:
SAT: 2250 [740 CR, 710 Math and 800 Writing]
APs: World History(5), Psych(5), US History(5) and Eng Lit(4)
Subject Tests: World History(720), Math1(690) - I'm retaking this, US History(760)
Current Courses: AP Stat, AP French, AP Environmental Science, AP Gov, AP Eng Lit
GPA: 4.17 Weighted 3.95 Unweighted. My school's weighting sucks; my gpa doesn't do me justice because I've taken lots of AP/Honors classes and have all As on my transcript except for 1 B in 8th grade Algebra 1
Rank: Top 3% about 20/650

Recs: Teachers like me pretty well, my History teacher loves me
ECs: Model UN 2 years, volunteered at my school's health department 3 years, school newspaper 3 years (editor this year and had my own column in every issue for 2 years), president of msa, Young Democrats, Obama Campaign, French Honors Society and a couple others (im blanking)
Awards: Distinguished Honor Roll every semester All 4 years of high school, AP Scholar w/distinction, Dartmouth Book Award, and Outstanding Achiever in the National Merit Scholarship Test (PSAT)

Other:
Majors: 1st choice is Psychology, 2nd is History/Gov
State: VA, public school
Gender: Female
Income: low (30-40,000)
"Hooks:" I'm an URM; my parents and I immigrated from Africa when I was younger (I consider myself African-American) & I'm a first generation college student (my mom has a hs diploma, my dad started but didnt finish hs)

Thanks in advance for advice! :)

I would apply to Brown, Dartmouth, Williams, Pomona, CMC, Wesleyan, William and Mary, and Middlebury.

Reaches: Tufts, Cornell, Princeton, Columbia

Matches: UVA, W&M

Safeties: JMU, GMU

@thebestattest I don’t know I’m not planning on going there :P

thebestattest is obviously a ■■■■■.
I would early decision (which is, of course, too late) Cornell, Dartmough, or Brown.
For regular decision: apply to anywhere that you wanna go! (yes- even HYPS). The top 10 colleges are reaches, but I would be surprised if you don’t get into any of the top 25 colleges (you have great hooks!)

UC Berkeley is a match but sort of safe… Claremont McKenna, Harvey mudd, Pomona, will and marry, Umichigan?, uchicago… Idk what ur gpa is exactly but top 3 percent sounds like you should apply to a broad range among the top 25-30 colleges on USNEWS.

^+1

You have great stats and a great profile + hooks so you have a good chance almost anywhere. HYPS (obviously reaches) I think have your desired majors. For matches, I think Ansher has a good list. Also, if you get into one of HYPS or another school that meets full aid (google for the list), college might be almost free for you.

I think most people use their state university as a safety but UVa is somewhat competitive. If you post this thread in the “College Selection and Search Forum”, I think you’ll get better answers than you would in this one.

I don’t really like UVA because it’s so big, but I visited W&M last month and liked it a lot  I still wouldn’t pick it over UChicago or Dartmouth (if im lucky enough to get in). And there’s no way I’d apply to HYPS, but I might apply to a couple other Ivies.

UCB can be a low match if one was full-pay…

Since I live in VA, I don’t really wanna go that far away from home. Definitely not to Hawaii or Cali, but maybe as far west as Illinois maximum. I wouldn’t mind going far up the east coast though (but not south).

I’d apply to Princeton, UChicago, UPenn, Duke, Virginia Tech, Colgate, Trinity and JMU. Good luck.
Chance me if you can:

UChicago is my dream school. I never really thought I was competitive enough though.

Yes, you are competitive just pay attention to your essays and answers in the supplement, Uchicago gives a lot of importance to those. Good luck.

Univelocity, why would you recommend Harvey Mudd for this student? No apparent interest in STEM majors or EC activities, 690 SAT II on Math I… and student wants to major in Psych or History/Gov. That recommendation is nonsense…

Agree with other posters that you are a competitive application for some very good schools. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! bumppp anyone else? :)

Btw chance me back if you can:

Thanks :)

If you like Chicago, also consider Columbia, Harvard and Reed all of whom have a core centered around the classics. For in state, W&M also has an option like that. One other thought – University of Richmond: a safety where you would likely get money plus a good liberal arts education

I know it’s not THAT much of a difference between UChicago and Harvard/Columbia, but I feel like applying to those two would be kind of wasteful since so many more qualified applicants are rejected, including my school’s valedictorian from last year.

bump10char

Apply to all the top schools, doesn’t matter if it’s a college or university. You’ll probably get into at least one of them.
